batteries won't charge December 12, 2004, 11:27:16 pm Yahoo Message Number: 47755The batteries in our LD were replaced a year ago by the previous owner. We just purchased the 97 30 ft IB and drove it for 5 hours home. However, the batteries, which registered on the monitor as weak, were still registering as weak after the 5 hour drive. In reading the manual, it mentioned a diode isolator. Could this be the problem? Can an RV repair shop handle this or is it a problem for the mothership? And, does anyone recommend an RV repair service in San Diego? Thanks Sue

Since you actually got home from a 5 hour drive, the alternator is apparently charging the chassis battery. Check the battery lights on the monitor panel or if you have solar panels, the voltmeter on the controller to see if the voltage goes up when the engine is started. It should go up to the top light on the panel or to something above 14 volts on a controller. If it does not it could be the isolator or perhaps the circuit breaker in the line between the isolator and the battery. An RV shop probably can deal with this but the mother ship could also if you are unable to fine a shop you trust.Try this and ask again if you need more help.Linley

I had similar problems last year; replacing the isolator diode corrected them. It's a very inexpensive fix (both in parts and labor cost) that any RV shop should be able to handle.Andy Baird

batteries won't charge Reply #5 – December 14, 2004, 03:34:46 pm Yahoo Message Number: 47859Look and make sure that the batteries are not shut off from charging. There may be a ON/OFF switch right over the batteries. This switch is used when you put your LD in storage so the batteries won't discharge. This is an LD option and may or may not be present. You may just have to turn this ON...........Ted
