Technically-challenged here...what does "isolating the coach batteries" mean and/or do?

Its just a master battery switch. Any lead-acid battery will be severly degraded if it is left discharged for extended period of times. If you are storing your RV for a few months where it will receive no charging current, this switch cuts off everything, including all the very small drains from the various monitor/alarm units. These units (LP gas, carbon CO, fire) draw a few thousanths of an amp each. Small, but sufficinent to discharge even a 220 amper-hour LD coach battery over a few months. The switch shuts everything off.

Some draw considerably more - especially LP detectors and CO detectors with displays. It is not unusual to find 1 Amp or more of phantom loading.

Older models did not come with this array of detectors, and I have resisted buying any for ours that don't use self-contained batteries.
