My wife is wondering how strong the dyes are in the carpet and interior of a new ld?  How long does it take for them to dissipate?  Many thanks for all the info and posts.  john

In five RV's, we have never had fading in the carpet, and it is the same with Lazy Daze. But our Lazy Daze is the first rig we have had where we can see no fading in the fabrics, even the red, which normally are the first to fade. Whether it is the fabric or the tinted windows, I don't know, but I suspect it is the latter.

I have a 1975 LD and all the curtains are the same color even the ones never in the sun. Carpet is the same ugly 1970's shag yellow all over. Dosen't seem to have faded at all in 25 years. By the way everything still works well with no leaks. Best motorhome on the market. Wish I could afford a new one but why spend all that money? Maybe when I retire. Bruce

John, When you say "dyes", are you referring to the stuff that might "out-gas" from the carpeting and fabrics used in the Lazy Daze? I know that some folks can be very sensitive to the various gasses and smells that emanate from "new" materials.

Having carpet and fabrics that resist fading is great, but if the stuff drives you out of the house it's not so good.

Your use of the word "dissipate" got me going on this.
Perhaps you like to elaborate?

Yes, the original question was in regard to the strong odors that are present from new fabrics and carpets. Does anyone remember how bad it was when they took delivery of a new LD? How long did it take to air out? And how long before it didn't knock you out when entering the LD after it was closed up for a period of time? Thanks to Bob for picking up on the omission of the subject of smells. Lenette (Mrs. John)

Lenette:

This is from an athsmatic, so I hope it answers you properly. We never got any outgassing or odors from our new Lazy Daze (1988 MB). I know there was a "new" smell in the dinette seat only because a grandchild spilled some juice and when I finished cleaning it, I smelled it to make sure I got everything, and in the process barely noticed that the fabric had a "new fabric" smell. I don't think you will have any problem with LD materials. Hope this helps.

I picked up my new LD on 2/14/01 and just came back from a three week "shake down" trip (if your were wondering, there was nothing that "shook out"). The only smell that I noticed was the very pleasant smell of something new -- like a nice new car. I'm not alergy prone, so I may not be the best judge, but there were no unplesant or overpowering chemical smells.

Hope this helps, Marilyn

Hi Lenettes, Just couldn't pass on commenting on subject of smells in a new Lazy Daze. We took delivery of our new 26.5' Mid-Bath on January 11 of this year.

Wife suffers from alergies and is very sensitive to odors - had to stop using fragrences a few years ago. I have a bothersome eye condition that reacts immediately to chemical smells.

NEITHER OF US COULD FIND ANY OBJECTIONAL SMELLS IN OUR NEW LAZY DAZE!

I had expected to find some unholstery foam odors, adhesive smells or at least some "new carpet" odors. We had our LD closed up on the first night and found none - Even the furnace worked without adverse odors.
Lazy Daze must have run it for a while to check it out, which got rid of the "new furnace" odors we expected to find. Both of us commented that it had much less in the way of interior odor than the new Buick LeSabre I bought last December.

OTOH, our last new class C, which had a full Ozite interior, wood frame construction and fiberglass exterior, had for moinths a fiberglass resin odor when we first entered the coach after it had been closed up for a little while.

I

was in our LD yesterday after it had been closed up (only a week since I'd last been in it) and it had no noticeable odor. Both wife and I have remarded to each other that this is much better than we had expected for such a concentrated collection of new parts and materials in a small space. Perhaps the "green" interior we selected had more meaning than we thought it would.........
