One of the options the LD offers is the heat strip. Since the LD has a furnace what is the heat strip's purpose? And how does it work? Only thing I can think of for its use would be on cool days and you don't want to mess with the furnace.

The heat strip has a meager output compared to the furnace, useful mostly in weather above freezing or to keep the plumbing from freezing in colder weather. It is handy if you happen to have hookups, because it doesn't deplete your LP supply. If your hookups are METERED, however, you will be displeased with how much power it consumes - more than the air conditioner.

We use our heat strip just to knock the edge off early morning chill and once in a while leave it on at night. We do not sleep with the furnace on. In New Mexico in the winter, backed up to Red River (frozen)the strip did just right.
Hope this helps.

While the heat strip won't replace the furnace for heating the LD, it will take the chill off. And if you are hooked up to "free" electricity it can save the propane.

Also, when leaving our pet in the motorhome on not so cold days, I like to turn off the furnace and just operate the heat strip.

When traveling on the road we often use the generator to make some coffee or microwave. In order to give the generator a little extra use (you need to make sure that it gets enough each month to prevent problems) on cold days I'll use the heat strip. The extra load makes the generator work, which is good. In the summer the AC works for using the generator, so in the cold months I run the heat strip.

Hello Bobbie, Heat Strip Comments: It is either on or off. There is no thermostat control for it.
It has a relatively low heat output. The super insulation of the Lazy Daze makes the heat strip seem more effective that it did on our last motorhome, which was smaller than our Lazy Daze. Outside temperature was at a low of 27 degrees on our January trip in our Lazy Daze; We used only the furnace on the first night and it cycled on and off many times. The second night we turned on the heat strip and the furnace cycled on and off only a few times. In the spring and fall, the first one up to go to the bathroom turns on the heat strip; Ten minutes later the interior is warm enough to be comfortable. The heat strip is not an expensive option. Should the heat strip quit working, it does not have to be fixed right away to keep using the RV.
Using the heat strip also filters the inside air; HEPA filters are available for the air inlets of the air conditioner to help reduce inside pollen levels. The non-automatic heat strip works independently of the automatic furnace. However, you don't have to ever "mess" with the furnace, as when you are "on site", you just turn it on and set the thermostat, just like you do at home.

Blessed are those with heat strips and no porpane, for they shall never be really cold, Don McG
