Woohoo!
Yahoo Message Number: 2414
Hi,

Two days ago, I changed status from "wannabe" to "gonnabe." "Willbe" in late september or so.

Even though I had never even seen an LD unit in person, when I went to Montclair, I felt like a pilgrim who made it to Mecca. It was sacred ground. Everyone -- in the front office, show area, and manufacturing buildings -- had a glow about them. The product is beautiful from ground up: a true work of technology and art, conceived and built with great care. I was worried that my expectations had been overly fueled by enthusiastic reporters on the net; in fact, I was even more impressed after seeing what they made, and how. The test drive model with Bilstein shocks handled exceedingly well.

The order: 26.5' mid-bath, red/burgandy exterior, brown interior (really wish they offered grey but oh well). Options: Bilsteins, heat strip in the a/c, 12v plugs and phone jacks at dinette and in rear overhead, house battery disconnect, windshield boot, 2" receiver hitch, insulated holding tanks, outside shower, manual satellite dish, 400w inverter, pedestal table, cd changer, swamp cooler, and 2 solar panels. Special considerations (not on their options list but they were willing to work with me): all-white paneling (instead of the bug-splat pattern), reversed window valence colors (to have more plum and less gold), 2 extra seatbelts in the rear lounge (to make a total of 4), t-145 house batteries (higher amp/hrs), and running a gps antenna cable from dash to roof.

I did not make up my mind on the v10 engine vs. diesel until taking the test drive. I know diesels are noisy, smelly, expensive, and heavy -- but I have had great experiences with them in the past and had that in mind because I foresee putting a lot of miles on this unit. However, as you probably know, the engine is basically sitting in the cab: the v10 was a louder than I expected, so I realized I would be annoyed with a clackety diesel nearly on my lap for a long trip.

Thanks again to everyone on this group for being so generous with time and information. Now that I have seen the new models, I hope to be able to contribute something helpful here.

Happy happy, --Valerie
