Ron,

Looking at the 2004 Ford Chassis Changes what struck me as interesting was the reference to the E-450 diesel chassis as having a 'common'14500 GVWR on page 4 under powertrain/chassis...
I don't know if this is a typo but if it is not, I wonder how much of that increased GVWR is at the front axel to deal with the extra weight of the diesel.

Since they had the 7.2 diesel, previously. I wonder why a 6.0 diesel would weigh more? (extra)

All that I've read on the various web sites indicate that the 6.0 Power Stroke is a couple of hundred pounds lighter than the 7.3 Power Stroke. However, I don't recall seeing anything offical from Ford about this. Still, even if the new diesel is lighter, maybe Ford has addressed the still somewhat marginal front axel weight rating for the E-450 diesel.
I would have expected to see related GVWR chassis changes covered in the same update. Who knows? In the Ford E-450 cut-a-way spec sheet (see below) Ford did not differentiate the payloads of the diesel vs. the gasoline engines (though the curb weight of the Compressed Natural Gas chassis was called out.)

One thing that does have me wondering on this. They went through the bother of noting that no changes can be made between the catalytic converter and the engine. Now is this something the exhaust brake people ignore? Or do they install the exhaust brake beyond the catalytic converter?
