How would you store an rv in Bakersfield where it's so terribly hot?  In the shade?  How important is a fabric or vinyl cover?  Should you leave a window or windows open?  Is there anything heat-sensitive in the motorhome that ought to be removed?  What non-removable items are going to suffer as a result of the inevitable baking?  Is there anything that can be done to prevent heat damage?

Although I am comfortable with keeping dry and canned goods in the LD ready for its next trip, i found our by accident yesterday that there is one major food groups that does not store well in the LD when the temp. is 100 or more - chocolate!!! A couple of Hershey bars mistakenly got left in with the graham crackers and I found quite a mess! S'mores anyone? Campfire not required!

Linda in hot for at least two months Victorville - hoping to escape to the mtns. soon!

PS Sarah, if you are still in Seattle, how is the weather there?

I found when my RV bakes the velcro comes off inside - if I leave some vents open it's fine.  Keep the refrigerator/freezer open - I bought some cute plastic "feet" at Target's in the kitchen section that does the job great.
Of course, cover the tires.

We are storing our rig in the open in Santa Fe.  This is NOT  a good thing, I think.  The heat is hard on all elements of the rig.  The sun is hard on the various seals on roof and elsewhere.  But right now we have no choice.  We have a maxx-air cover on one of the vents.  We leave that vent open summer and winter, and have had no problems with moisture getting into the rig.  We also leave a dishpan full of water inside the rig, to raise the humidity...trying to prevent drying out in our ultra-low humidity here in Santa Fe.  (Guess it is preferable to the potential for mold and mildew we experienced living on the coastside south of San Francisco.)
During the winter we remove anything that might freeze, but in summer we leave things in the rig so we can make a quick getaway whenever possible.  (No perishable food...of course.)  Have not experienced problems with this.
I would be overjoyed at this point to have "breezeway" type storage...just a bit of overhead shade would be welcomed.

Good luck.,

Bobbi

I had the same problem--Velcro strips oozing off the wall in hot weather--until I started using Superlock instead of Velcro. The adhesive backing on the Superlock just will not let go! See my website's "All about Superlock" page (http://
www.andybaird.com/travels/gertie/superlock.htm) for more information.
