At long last, our delivery report!
Yahoo Message Number: 23740
I've been putting off reporting the details of our LD pick up. I guess I was trying to figure out a way to offer a condensed version to prevent boring all of you. I'm sorry if this is too long, but hey, we waited a long time too. Some of you who I have communicated with off the list, know that we faced an additional challenge to pick up our much anticipated LD. Just a little background for the group. My wife was having a difficult recovery from orthopedic surgery, and almost was unable to travel from Ohio to Montclair for the big day.
Her lack of mobility meant it would not be easy, and we were on a mission to just get the LD and get home as quickly as possible. LD allowed us to delay our pick up another week to get clearence for her travel, and the nice folks at Southwest Airlines, and some helpful strangers we met along the way, made the journey much more enjoyable.
We had decided to not ship anything and just take the barest of necessities to make a very quick trip back to Ohio. The night before our actual pick up was very long. After 8+ months of anticpation, would this thing live up to all the high expectations? Was that even possible after reading and re-reading all the messages. Well, when the morning of June 12 dawned and we called LD and got Tod on the phone to come pick us up at the motel, the butterflies really started to flutter. As he drove us into the parking lot, THERE IT SAT! At last, there was that silver/gray beauty! WOW! The ladies in the office made us feel welcome and were glad to see that my wife had made the journey. They took our list of purchases and introduced us to Kevin who then took us out for the introduction to OUR LD. He started to tell us about it and I had to stop him. I just needed to look at it and smell it and touch it! FABULOUS! He did a very thorough presentation, made note of things we felt needed some attention.  While we did the paperwork, they made a few minor repairs. Then we met Colin Moore of Moore Transport who was going to drive us to Vegas to turn over possession of "Voyager" to us. He was very accomodating, stopping so we could grab lunch, lots of LD information, driving tips, and generally made the trip to Vegas go by quickly. The first mile or so from the factory made me wonder what had we done! They have just repaved the road by the factory, and the LD was making all kinds of noise, mostly from the tires and I needed reassurance that this was a normal noise, and there seemed to be a lot of wind noise too. I was starting to think we made a big mistake when it quieted down. Once we were on the interstate, it felt more like a luxury car! The transfer in Vegas went smoothly, and then, for the first time, it was my turn to drive. I wasn't prepared for the infamous Ford steering phenomenon, known as bump steer, but quickly adapted. We drove as far as Mesquite, Nevada the first day, and then headed for home. There were 39 miles on it when we left LD, and in 3 1/2 days we pulled into the drive with 2393 miles. The last day was almost 800 miles and I have to tell you that it was much less stressful than the same drive we made towing our trailer. The great part was, my wife never had to leave the coach, and her comfort was very good, for the most part. Here are some comments on the actual LD. We had never seen the current upholstery, other than samples, and it was far more beautiful than we had expected! Much more contemporary than we had previously seen. We didn't expect much from the cabinets, but again, they were far nicer than expected.
Everything worked flawlessly! Except when we overnighted in a rest area in Colorado, over 10500 feet high, the fridge quit working, probably from the elevation, it was fine once we got to normal elevation. I can't tell you how happy we are with our decision to get the LD. We had been on a long journey to make this decision. We had visited the Born Free factory. We finally got to see a Big Foot Class C at the Harrisburgh RV show in Pa. last fall, and saw everything from Jayco, Winnebago, Fleetwood, etc. I can't tell you how many miles and days we invested in the process. I know we made the right choice! We can't wait to finally use it for fun. I want to thank a few special people who helped us. Mr. & Mrs. Mac---r who gave us our first viewing of an LD in March of 2002. Chris and Pat Horst, who we ran into in Colorado on our way to the factory last May. They had just picked up their LD and were on the way home. The graciously shared their excitement with us, and offered encouragement along the way. Mike R. and Larry for some personal guidance, and those many kind souls here who share information and opinions on a daily basis.
Sorry if this bored you folks. One journey ends, but now the real fun begins! Engage! (for you non trekkies, that's Captain Picard's order to get the ship under way!) Steve K (no longer waiting, but still in Ohio)

Hey Steve,
Congratulations on your new LD!  Sounds like LD took care of you.  It also appears that Kevin has improved his orientations with experience.  I was his first solo customer and ended up educating him on a lot of things.

I also have been impressed with the handling ability of the coach.
It just sits on the road and is very quiet.  One suggestion, use lots of that plastic liner to wrap up pots, pans, etc. and also to keep things from sliding in the cabover.  You can buy it in large rolls at Costco. It will keep the ride quiet.

Please post your suggestions for stereo changes.  I am also looking to swap mine out for a better one with better ease of use and MP3 capability.

Happy travels,

Mike S.

Congratulations on your new toy!  Did you find out why the noise go away?  Is it possible, that after a few miles, you became acclimated to it?

Thanks, Sam

Steve (still in Ohio?) - I've been waiting to read your post!  My husband and I are originally from Ohio (Akron) and have enjoyed your many postings.
I so enjoyed reading of your experiences picking up your new LD and about your trip back to Ohio.  Glad you and your wife made it in such good shape! We are waiting for Sept (or maybe Oct.)- when we'll go through some of your experiences!  We live in California now, so the trip to the Mothership won't be as long as yours, but I suspect our excitement and yearning for the pick-up date aren't much different than yours! Many happy years of LDing - maybe we'll see you and your wife "on the road" someday! Congratulations on your new "addition" and safe travels!

Steve -
Enjoyed reading your delivery report.  We should be experiencing that before the end of the summer.  We are glad to hear the orientation to your unit was thorough and helpful.  We will need that since it will be our first RV.
Your comments on the ICC driver were also appreciated since we are taking delivery in Ehrenberg.
Curious as to where in hot and humid Ohio you call home.  I grew up in Columbus and my wife is from Michigan before making Arizona our home.
We can hardly wait to get our LD so that we can dream up adventures and then "make it so" (another Picard-ism).
