Thanks to all for the replies to messages, and also to the wonderful person who updates the "For Sale" list.  This message board is like "LAZY DAZY 101" we read it everyday! ! ! My question is traveling with DOGS.  We may be crazy, but we will have no other choice than to travel with our herd of 3.  One of these cuties, does not listen, likes to run, and she is stuborn.  Is there a portable containment system, such as the invisible fence?  We have an invisible fence system now at home, and this particular company does not make a portable system. This system works like a charm. Does anyone have experience with an invisible fence system while traveling?  Having three dogs on lines is a nightmare, they are constantly tangled.  I am also wondering about hiking with dogs.  I know National Parks have restictions.  Any info? ? ? ?   Sharon in MD

Sharon,

I also travel with dogs.  I have 2 that go everywhere with us and I know what you mean about the tangled leads. :-)  Thankfully, one of my dogs is very obedient and I can leave her off leash is necessary.  The other is a complete opposite.  I take my eye off her for one second, and she is gone.

There are a few ways to tackle your problem.  Like you already mentioned, there is the invisible fence.  These can work great, but it depends on your dogs.  If they have a high prey drive, this may not stop them from bolting after a squirrel or something.  There are some systems that work off one transmitter and you set the range on it, so are fairly portable.
The other option, again it depends on your dogs if this will work or not, are ex-pens (exercise pens).  This is what most people use at dog shows, so there dogs can stretch there legs and do there business with out being on a lead.  Ex-pens are basically 4-5 foot sections of cage walls.
There heights are varied.  They come linked together and you can link more if you need a bigger pen.  There may be 8-12 sections linked together to form a pen.  If you have athletic dogs that don't like being penned up, they may very well leap over the walls.  The good thing about them is that they are easy to set up and fold flat.
That's about all there is for mobile containment.  Here are a few sites that may help you out....

Most of the restrictions on dogs at parks are they are not allowed on the trail system. Which really sucks, because that is something they would enjoy as much as people.

Hope this helps,

Dear Victor, Thanks for the info.  I will check it out.  The runner dog is also a wimp, and accustomed to  the invisible device here at home, so if I can find a similar product, that is what I would prefer.  The pen is also I good idea.  I agree, the dogs would love the trails.  the only place that I know, that dogs are allowed on trails, is in the Adirondacks (they are not a National Park).  What do you do if you want to go out to eat, or go into a store?  I have a feeling we will be cooking at camp. Thanks again, Sharon

If you have a generator, I suggest that you leave the A/C on.  We traveled with two dogs on a recent trip, and when we were going to be out of the RV we put them in their carrying cases and left them in the RV with the A/C on.
