Thanks, Ron, and bless the internet! I've been looking for something exactly like this for ages, now I find it in just a couple hours. Not only that, but I checked the dealer listing on their site and found out that there is one just a couple miles from my home. Now, all I need is the LD to attach it to.

Thanks, again.

Gregg, I contacted Carefree of Colorado last summer and their screen roooms as most others are not made for the Fiamma F45/ A&E Horizon awning.
They are made for full size awnings and the sides are much wider than the awning on the LD. You could possibly modify their room but the only one I found that was made specifically for the LD awning is the Florida Room from Fiamma because it was made by the real mfg of the LD awning. A&E only resells the Fiamma F45 as the Horizon. I also contacted A&E and they said they didn't have  a screen room that would work properly with the Horizon awning. I posted the link to the Fiamma page and you can order directly from them or find a dealer locally that sells them by contacting them.

Gregg:  Sounds like Mike has done his homework.  I have no proprietory interest in "Carefree", only know them to be a good company through previous purchase of Jeep soft top products.  Didn't think that "Fiamma" offered the camping extension I am looking for, but it does look like a great Florida room. Guess I will need to keep looking.  Will definitely be addressing the non-standard awning issue with LD when I place my order next month.

Ron, By non-standard I mean that the most typical awnings for RVs are the type that has no fully shielding aluminum box enclosure that protects the awning from wind and sun when traveling. They have the side arms exposed and are a little wider from RV to front edge of the awning because of this but the LD awning is actually a much better design for several reasons. It does have a few drawbacks but they all do.
I've had both type and I prefer the Fiamma F45/A&E Horizon box type.
They don't whistle while driving down the road and the shield is fully protective unlike the cheap vinyl or aluminum weather shield flap the other type use. With those the wind rips through the awning material while driving and the supports and make a whistling noise and that means it's adding to the wind resistance of the RV reducing fuel economy. It really is a personal preference like most other things and that's why there are so many different companies making the same things with slightly different designs. Talking to LD about it won't change the type they install for you standard and I wouldn't want the other type on it myself.
Most of the other awning makers have other types of awnings also and some have screen rooms for some but not all and others don't. Many make one for the more common width awning and they are I believe about 1-2' wider from RV to awning edge when extended.  A&E, Carefree of Colorado, Faulkner, Shade Maker, etc all make awnings and some have screen rooms for the most common type and some have one for the pop-up camper type but none make them for all awning types and none of the others has both vertical and horizontal supports for them.
Gold Coast RV Products makes the best-priced room but they only make them for the most common type awning. You could use one of the others but would have to modify the side panels to fit correctly. That means either additional time to modify it or money to have someone do it for you. Either as they say way time is money! My view is that it is better to get one made specifically for the awning on the LD and since Fiamma actually makes that awning and the Florida Room to go with it would be a better choice. It is only a few dollars more but the quick set pole/rafter design is much better and worth a little more money. All the others have only rafters for the ends to hold the top of the sides and stiffen the roof with no vertical pole and that makes the Florida Room stronger. They also sell them in sets for additional support where the others sell only rafters.

I agree with this, I just wish somebody would make exactly, precisely what *I* want. Ah, well, maybe I'll have to go out and find a tentmaker like my Dad did in '62.
Actually, about all that would be required to make the Fiamma screen room work for me (and a curious cat) is a bathtub style tent floor attachable with snaps or zippers. I could probably find someone to make an ad-on like that for me.
I want a floor not just for pet security, but also because I conceive this to be a fixed living/sleeping room while in camp - even in rainy weather.
When I visited the factory last June, I got the low-down from Ed on why the awning they chose is the best I should ever want or need. Seeing it deployed convinced me of the Fiamma's quality, but I wasn't thinking at that time about an add-on room.

Gregg, I would think adding a floor would be relatively easy to do. I'd rather have to do that than modify the sidewalls of one to fit correctly. None of the screen rooms come with floors. I think most people use a carpet or mat with them. Some of those won't keep water out but I would think you could get a tarp, mat, or carpet and use Velcro or snaps to attach it to the sidewalls and skirting. I don't think you'd want something permanently sewn in and most tents these days use polyethylene flooring that is the same as a poly tarp. You could also just get some of the tubes you fill with water to use around the perimeter with the flooring of choice being a little larger than the length and width of the room and coming up the sides under the tubes. You may find that at times you'll need to use the water filled tubes anyway since you may not always be able to drive the stakes into the ground. There are several possibilities. I know both cats and dogs are curious so you need more than just the floor itself sitting inside unattached or attached with the use of grommet holes held by the tent stakes because that will leave gaps they can find their way through. I think you'd be able to come up with something to modify the Fiamma Florida Room to your particular needs without too much trouble though. It would most likely cost less than something completely custom made and they appear to be well designed and made like most Fiamma products. Of course I haven't seen them in person yet but I will soon.

Mike:
Thanks for the info. and the very thorough explanation of the various issues and options surrounding the consideration of an "add on room" for the LD.  By my saying "...talking to LD", I knew that it would not change anything, but believe that all competent and conscientious businesses seek and desire feedback from customers.  However, after reading your explanation, it seems that LD has once again chosen the best option available within a nothing perfect environment.  I think that when I considered the option of an add on room for the LD I was thinking more along the lines of something like the camping enclosures that you can get for a boat.  I haven't really seen anything similar for MH's.  Am interested in hearing your thoughts on the probable rise in gasoline prices vs the purchase and use of an RV as recently asked withing this group.  I will purchase regardless.  Being more than old enough to remember the last gasoline crisis, I am more worried about a shortage of gasoline than an increase in cost.  You can always compensate and adjust, but I do not want to experience waiting in hr. long lines for limited amounts again.  The riple effect of that situation is devestating to the RV industry and the individual recreating/traveling RV public.
Funny how these discussions expand, I believe the original question which started the "Florida Room" discussion was one concerning the posibility of grooming dogs in the rear area of a 26 1/2 RB! Keep up the research and happy camping,

Ron

Greg,

Could you share with me the reasons Ed gave for choosing the awning style on the LD?  My husband was interested in converting to the other type of awning, where the vertical members are exposed next to the RV body, when the awning is not in use.  We both realized, at least on the 23.5 ft RB, there would be no room for mounting that type of awning, as the windows are so expansive (a very good thing!).  We wouldn't want the vertical supports to cover a window.
Anyway, we dropped the idea, but are interested in Ed's opinion.

Thanks,

Cindy

Ron,

While no one really wants to wait, the only consoling thought I can give is that based upon some waits at tire stores, etc., a wait (even an hour or so) can be very pleasant

Hi Cindy,

Mostly, Ed mentioned the same points Mike detailed in an earlier post - the awning being fully enclosed in its' box when rolled up, a sturdier and more flexible rafter system, the fact that the outside corner supports can be vertical and generally superior quality over other makes.

I didn't think of it when I was looking at the models, but you are right - if the vertical supports were attached to the side wall, it would really mess up the window arrangement on most models, especially the 23.5' TK. That may be the best reason for using the Fiamma brand.
