Just thought of another reason I like the RB model.

On a chilly morning, I turn on the furnace and close the door. As this puts one of the furnace vents in the bathroom area it heats up quickly for that morning shower.

Linda,

I know what you mean.  Even when we have electricity available to heat the LD, we have been known to turn on the furnace during 'bath time'.  It is a luxury to dry

Linda or Barry,
Is there room in the area in front of the closet/bathroom to set up a small (18"x24") table occasionally, and still have room to move around there? I would be closing that area off from the rest of the LD.
I am trying to decide between the MB & RB. I would like to be able to groom sm dogs in an area that would be easy to clean! From the floor plan drawings it looks like that area is about 40" by 40"? Does the closet door swing open to block that area? I suppose some modification would be necessary to keep the closet clean.

I am watching the "LS's for sale", thought for sure I wanted a MB.
Then thought about the extra income I might be able to make grooming pets. I would like to full-time in the future and want to keep my options open. We don't have many LD's in Ohio to check out!
I really appreciate your help. I have been reading the posts here for so long I feel like I know all of you!!!! You have been my link to the rest of the world!

Thanks again!

Shirley,

I would say no, unless you are more innovative than I am.  The door swings into the bath area, so takes up most of the room while closing off the area.  Having a dog, table, and you

You might investigate one of the 'side room' tent arrangements under the awning.  That would seem to be more practical to me.
Barry,

I'm not familier with the "side rooms". Any idea where to see a picture of one?

The closet/bath door is 37+" wide so has a large swing area. With the door open to the bath area (closet closed) you could set up a temp 18" deep table and still have approx 20" to stand. You would then have to figure out some other temp arrangement to close off the area from the rest of the coach (??shower curtain maybe with velcro on the edges to help seal it closed).
Also, with the bath door closed, I would not want to set up anything that would block exiting too much. There is no other exit from the bath area. The rear window doesn't open and the window in the shower is too small.

Hope this helps Linda

Here's the site of the FLORIDA ROOM or side room that will fit the LD awning.

Gus
Gus, the site reference didn't appear in your post.  Would you mind repeating it -- am most insterested in a Florida Room that will fit a Lazy Daze awning.
Thanks, Lorna

Lorna-- before you invest in a Florida Room check it out very carefully as far as it's ability to withstand wind. I have never seen one of these outside of a showroom where they look wonderful.
Make sure you get some advice from someone that actually owns and USES one. It is just my opinion that if they were really practical that I would see more of them around and in use. I suppose it depends, in part, on where you use your LD but I can tell you that the wind blows pretty good down here in S Texas and I haven't even had my awning up yet. They may be more popular in the north because those darn MN birds (mosquitos) can make life really miserable.

Linda, I forgot about those dreaded blood sucking birds!  In Alaska, you could put a saddle on them and ride 'em -- if one were so inclined!  Actually, I was considering a Florida Room to corral my cat.  He's an innie/outie right now and may go stir crazy being cooped up for very long once we hit the road.  Thanks for the wind advisory heads up though.  I'm not sure how I'll deal with the cat issue yet -- just exploring some options for now.

Re: "Florida Rooms", wind and cats.

I think both the wind and cat escape problems relate to the same issues ... the lack of a floor and the lack of adequate tie-downs. At least I haven't seen any commercial products that seem good to me.

The wind will probably fly away with anything that isn't firmly attached to the ground, and your feline ninja will certainly try to find its way out of anything without a floor, and may succeed.

There could be a solution, though.

In 1962 my family (2 adults, 2 kids, 1 cat) spent the Summer traveling all around the country with a 13.5 ft. Shasta travel trailer. We had a side room attachment that my brother and I lived in when camped. It was basically a heavy square canvas tent with one side missing. It attached to the trailer with a rope slider arrangement, and to the ground with the usual large complement of tent stakes. Two corner tent poles held it up and were braced in the ground with ropes.

By strategic placement of boxes and luggage to block access the under trailer area, Sherman (the cat) never got out and seemed quite content. He also succeeded in teaching us how to follow on a leash.

The only time wind would be a problem was during set up. A couple times in the Southwest, the wind was just too high to work in.
Ohterwise, once the room was up, it was great. It essentially doubled the space of the little trailer.

However, the kicker is that the room had to be custom made by a tent-maker.

Today, I'm also interested in finding out if this concept could work with my someday soon, future LD. It may be an add-on that enhances life in the 23.5' models. Does anybody know of any commericial products similar to what I've described that may work with RVs, either as part of the awning or, somehow, separate?

Linda, The Florida Room and other side rooms for awnings actually allow you to have the awning extended in windy conditions that you otherwise would not be able to have them extended unless you have tie down straps for it. Even with tie down straps on an awning air can get under it and not enable you to use it when with a screen room you could. With the screen room when the inner flaps are down it prevents most of the air from getting under the awning and stressing it like it does without the sides. They attach to the awning and the ground with tent stakes and that helps prevent the air from lifting the awning like it does without them. Using the tie down straps with one makes them even better able to withstand stronger winds.

I've seen people use these type screen rooms on their RVs in some pretty windy weather and even during the afternoon T-storms down here in Fl without problems. On some of those same days I've seen standard awnings damaged and those with just tie downs nearly damaged. Of course I wouldn't want one up in real severe weather but they do make the awning safer to use in windy weather. You can normally use them in most windy conditions that you would many tents. For places where there are concrete or other site surfaces that don't allow the tent stakes for the side you can get tubes that fill with water to weigh the side down. There is a picture of one on a LD in the LD Enhancements group in the Key West folder. I think the owners went back to San Diego recently were selling or may have sold their LD.

I've wanted to go up to the Fiamma USA site to view these in person since it's about 45 minutes from St Cloud up near the UCF campus in Orlando. One of these days I'll get up there and see them in person.
Here in Fl the mosquitoes are quite bad much of the year so one would make evenings more enjoyable outside. That can be true for much of the USA in summer and especially now with the amount of mosquito spread diseases these days.

Lorna,

Check out this site.  I believe they are full timers who make and sell the Kitty condo, which mounts outside one of your windows and allows your pet to get through the window into an attached cage.

There is another Yahoo discussion group called RVtalk and the seller posts on that site.

Lorna,

The "purrfectpetplace" site underlines the fact that this is not recommended for aluminum sided RVs, unless you can attach to studs.

You can see some free-standing alternatives at the Doctors Foster&Smith catalog site:

I'm thinking about the puppy version for our two Yorkies.

Sharon, isn't the internet the very best resource -- something for everyone.  Thanks for the FosterSmith reference.  It isn't just that my cat likes fresh air, he likes to investigate and if confined, might meow worse than an unhappy dog barks!  I'm still thinking through the alternatives though.
Thanks again, Lorna
