Thanks a lot, Steve T.  We'll try that and see if it helps.  I'll also look for someone with a SWR meter and see if the antenna needs tuning.

Steve, what does "convert to a connecterized---" mean? I understand corrosion, but don't understand the rest of it.

That would involve putting a connector on the cable and another on the antenna.  However, you probably have my later answer (post 20236) by now and that is simpler and equally effective. I'm still learning - yay! Steve T
