Choke River Birding Festival February 09, 2003, 06:31:42 pm Yahoo Message Number: 18881We just got back to New Braunfels, unloaded and got the LD washed. It was a dirty trip, as most of the driving was in misty drizzle that was just enough moisture to allow the passing cars and trucks to throw the dirt from the highway onto the LD, but not enough rain to wash it off. I normally rest a day or so before washing the LD, but the LD looked so dirty and miserable that I had to do it today before we settled down. It looks bright as a 'new penny' now. The birding was great, the weather miserable. Saturday was overcast, misty/rainy, cold, and 'real birding weather'. The winners for the day sighted 96 species. As rank beginners, we were happy with our 39 species 'identified' (read 'pointed out to us'). Our favorites were the Green Jay, the Great Kiskadee and the Vermillion Flycatcher. (As beginners, we liked the bright-colored birds. Easier to see and identify.)We thought our winter-camping days were over this year, but once again our thanks to whoever suggested that you can run the cube heater and heat strip at the same time without blowing a fuse. At one point after coming back from the day of birding, and returning in the LD to the camp-site, we had both of these together with the propane furnace going to bring the LD up from 40 degrees inside to a more reasonable temperature ASAP. We were cold after a day in the field. Bottom line is that it was fun, and we'll probably go back next year (this was their first). Texas weather being what it is, we'll probably be in shorts next year. I know we were wearing shorts the week before the birding festival when we were in the Guadalupe River State Park.Barry

I can't wait to go birding in Texas. A friend and I will be going to the Godwit Days Spring Migration Festival in Arcata in April. Can't wait for that either. Also going down to the LD factory in 2 wks. Going to check them out and try to decide between the 23 FD or TK or the 26 RB. Can't wait for that too!Mac No Cal

Let us know what you decide and why.We really enjoy our RB, but would have to look seriously at the 23' now that it has the increased carrying capacity if we were to do it again. There would be less surface to wash and wax on a 23'. I would hate to loose the fixed dinette, however, as we use it for a computer table, etc. quite a bit. I guess the FD would be my choice
