Does anyone have a experience or a good reference for a replacement set of driver and passenger seats for a 1986 LD/Chevrolet, Thanks, Ron

Don,

I just gave up my 86 LD MultiPlan, and its seats were tired, too. We had kept them covered with two generations of fleece covers, but the underpinnings were pretty flacid.

I work for General Motors and have to try out several of their new models every year. There are some really comfortable production truck driver and navigator seats available in the GMC and Chevy pick-up lines. The 2001 GMC Sierra I have now has leather seating surfaces, but the chairs are not particularly comfortable.

Check out a few wrecking lots for a 1999-ish Chevy pick-up with power seats that have several rectangular panels and folding arm rests. The ones we liked were upholstered in plush.

I think that their sliding tracks can be bolted onto the turntables in your 86. You might need a couple of new holes in the mounting plate.

The power actuators are a waste of complexity, but may be necessary to get the best comfort. Look out for recent GMC/Chevy truck seats with the elastic lumbar support system. It boing-boings when you lean against it, and it probably won't line up with your own lumbar height.

good luck, and keep that rig a rollin'
