Roof Cleaning Methods and Tips May 18, 2024, 09:55:22 am Cleaning our LD’s roofs is an important and necessary job but can be dangerous! Please share your method, products, and tips to do the job safely and effectively so others in the LDOF community will benefit.Personally, I’ve tried different methods which includes leaning a tall ladder against the side of the rig to avoid walking on the roof but have found you really need to get up there to accomplish cleaning effectively. I’ve tried to bring a bucket of soapy water onto the roof but that’s a PITA. This last time I used a spray bottle with diluted Simple Green and scrubbed with a long-handled soft brush one section at a time. This seemed to work fairly well. For rinse water, I leaned a tall ladder against the side of the rig and wrapped a hose around it at the top so it doesn’t slide along the edge of the roof cap. Sort of works but I’d like to find a better method for rinsing. Sorry for the pixelated photos- it looks better in real life! 2 Likes
Re: Roof Cleaning Methods and Tips Reply #1 – May 18, 2024, 10:40:08 am Don't carry a bucket of soapy water up the ladder. Carry a bucket with a small amount of soap and fill it with water on the roof. I bring a bucket with a small amount of soap and a long handle soft brush up on the roof. I climb the built in ladder. Then I drag the hose up and typically hook it onto the luggage rack (mine is an older model with the rack). Fill the bucket with water once I'm on the roof. Wash / brush / rinse working from front to back. Occasionally I will spot clean with a small stiff brush. In the past I've tried simple green and wet and forget. I usually go back to regular car soap. Rich 2 Likes

Re: Roof Cleaning Methods and Tips Reply #3 – May 18, 2024, 12:54:31 pm I access the roof from the rear ladder on the LD. For cleaning, I just use a wet microfiber cloth. I wipe the roof (and solar panels) until the cloth is dirty. Then I toss the cloth down to my wife who rinses it off and then throws it back up to the roof. I fetch the cloth and continue the process until the roof is clean. I travel on the roof on my hands and knees and do not stand up. We typically do this cleaning about twice a year. I don't use any soap. We have used this method since the LD was new. 1 Likes
