Readying for Travel
Hello again!

My 2003 Rear Bath, 194000 miles strong, has been in storage since October.  I'll be traveling to the PNW in July and need the group's advice for a pre-travel checklist considering her long hiatus in storage.   She has year old duals, and 2 YO fronts, so except for inflation, tires aren't an issue.

All advice very much appreciated!  Thank you.

First on my list would be lube the brake calliper slide pins and consider a brake fluid change if it's been more than 2-3 years.

Oil Change (possibly just a drain and refill depending on miles since last change).

Check the batteries - house and coach.

Assuming it was in good shape when it entered storage, everything else would be as needed based on condition or recommended service schedule.   At ~194k, there could be a long or short list, depending on what has been serviced in the last 50k or so.

Considering your LD’s past experiences with rodents, make sure they have not eaten any critical parts before hitting the road.
Make sure the fluids are not due for change. Both the coach and starting battery may need attention.
Air the tires to their proper pressures.

Are you going to Tahoe first or straight to Washington this year?

I’m glad your LD is still operational. Many years ago you called from Statkus, in Albuquerque, dealing with coil misfire issues. They wanted to replace the engine as I recall. That was a good 60,000+ miles ago. Guess they were wrong.

194k miles should make us all feel pretty good about our rigs capability

Larry, have to skip Tahoe this year, doctors' orders...going straight to WA.  Although I have "traps" and noise under the hood, thanks for the reminder about rodents!  Adding it to my list.

Rich, thanks for the check batteries reminders - house bats are fairly new; engine battery needs to be checked.  And although she had a complete brake job four years (and about 4,000 miles ago), thanks for the reminder to check caliper pins.

Tony, while his knees were in great shape, my rig was indeed well taken care of by none other than your moderator.  I was a very spoiled LD owner.  And grateful!

My left knee is mostly titanium and the right one will be repaired sometime soon.
Motorhome projects are tough on the knees and lower back. it was a sad day when I had to stop, pain has a way of forcing decisions. I'm saving what's left for our LD's needs.
You and Joan were the last regulars to come for their annual "spa treatment" and upgrades. We miss the visits.
We made lots of good friends during those years and still camp with many of them, most of them you know well.

Travel safe.

Larry, I miss our visits too.  And the special care you took to help me travel safely down the road.  It's going to be a tough one, but I'll most likely have to disengage from Second Wind in the not-so-distant future --  not just her age, but mine too!!  With so many miles on her, I cringe every time I put the key in the ignition, wondering if I'll make it to my destination with the engine and transmission still clinging to life!

Larry, like Lorna, I am very grateful that while you were able, you re-sealed my LD roof at your house in California!  It's something I don't have to worry about again, although there are always other issues.  I've often used your wise words of wisdom that have helped me many times since (although not as much as for Lorna!).  We are blessed that you stick with us as our Wise Consultant and Friend.
Thank you, Kristin
