New Vent Fans

There is a new vent fan that seems similar to the Fantastic vent fans of old.
The RV LO Vent  Amazon.com: RVLOVENT RV Roof Vent Fan 12V Auto Remote Control 14'' inch 10...   The taller motor seems like the 'soup can' ball bearing motor in the older FFan's.
The sound level of squealing brushes was not good, in the newer FFans. Especially for the central location close to our seating and sleeping area in the 'TK. I put a 'Fantastic' 'exhaust only' fan in the bathroom, and the sound of the brushes is annoying.  I notice there is no automatic temperature fan on/off control. The remote looks capable.  With motorized lid and rain sensor.
I'm still trying to find out if the motor bearings are longer lasting and quieter ball bearings, as opposed to a sleeve bearing.  Hopefully is is an electrically commutated motor. Hall effect and not brushes.

And the venerable MaxAir Fan does have a ball bearing motor and remote. It features an integrated rain cover. https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Vents-and-Fans/MAXXAIR/MA00-07500K.html     but at a much higher price.    RonB

I have five, one in each location on my 30'IB and love what they can do... who needs A/C? Mine do not have the remote but I've never seen the need.   ;D

Hi Steve, well you must be tall!  I know some people who have a hard time reaching the controls. With 5 fans and an A/C, it would be inconvenient to carry a step stool around to each place. Now I'm still about 6' tall with shoes, so it isn't really a problem for me.   RonB

"...well you must be tall!..."

Used to be 5' 11" but believe I've shrunk a bit since then!  :D

But really, it's hardly more than an arms reach to manipulate the controls, even without a step stool. If you judiciously set the front vents  to force air out and the rear vents to allow air in you can set up a veritable wind tunnel effect, obviating the need for A/C.   ;)

Hi Steve
Iā€™m sure you have met my 4ā€™10ā€ wife at Morro Bay. She wishes she could reach the fan controls without a step stool.
This is the reason why we upgraded the bath Fantastic Fan by adding a remote control kit.

Being short of stature is not a handicap, at least you don't have to duck very often! Tell Rene she needs a 'grab stick' like grocery clerks and old people use! I'll even lend her mine for a short time. :D  :D  ;)

Another minus on the newer FF's...if you lose the remote or it becomes inoperable, you can't turn it on or off. No switches on the unit itself, only a knob to open the hatch.

Hi Linda;  At least you can close the lid if the remote quits or gets lost (or chewed by the dog).
I just found this one: voice control!  So it's listening to the TV/radio/ outside bystanders?  Amazon.com: Automatic 14" RV Vent Fan Ultra Less Noise Motor with Remote,...    At least it has brushless motors. Their version of 'smoke' seems really 'bluish'. As with many descriptions lately, it is pretty 'mangled' while leaving out important stuff like ball bearing motor bearings?   Motorized raise and lower and it has a knob to override that if the controls otherwise quit. The microphone would be placed where?, just hanging out?   I like the double arm lid actuator. As pointed out, an outside stiff breeze can cause the lid to rattle a lot at night (we sleep under our central fan) with just one central lift arm. I like the clear plastic fan, but it should be 10" and have more blades.  It should have continuously adjustable speed. A way to adjust to just the right speed to minimize noise at the best air flow.
One of the enclosed video reviews showed the voice confirmation of commands. I think that could get old fast. I do know one RV'er that travels with a parrot, that could be entertaining!
I see a lot of fans meant for smaller openings, Is 11" the new standard?    RonB

"I just found this one: voice control!"

I see a number of reasons why I would not buy this fan!  :-\

First, the fan blade tips are too short (insufficient shroud) and will allow by-pass.

Oh look, it has a rain sensor, goodie, goodie, so you won't have a puddle on the floor... but neither will you have ventilation!! The dog will love that!

I leave my MaxxAir vents open during rain storms and even while driving. Never had a puddle. Sorry Steve Newton, it does the job.  ;)

Our LD came with two Fantastic Fan and overall, we have been satisfied with them and the amount of air they move. Both fans have inexpensive Maxxair vent covers that allow the vents to be open in rainy conditions.
Amazon.com: MAXXAIR 00-933066 Original Vent Cover-White : Automotive

The lounge fan is the original and is 21 years old and has thousands of hours of operating time on its old-style soup-can motor. The fuse holder and removable screens are the only parts needing replacement. The old resistor speed control was removed and replaced with a variable PWM speed control to improve low-speed efficiency.

The bath fan was upgraded with the remote control kit several years ago and it has worked fine after startup problems of intermittent operation.  It was traced back to the rain sensor, once the rain sensor was disconnected, it worked as designed. The kit came with a pan-cake motor, the only available replacement for the soup-can motor. The pancake motor is needed for the 13-speed PWM speed control.
The speed control is handy for operation while in bed, allowing the fan to be on when going to bed and being able to turn it off and/or close the vent after it cools off.
