Brookings, OR Mechanic
Greetings from Brookings, OR where my 2003 RB's "Service Engine" lit up my dashboard.

Does anyone here know of a reliable RV/truck mechanic in the Brookings area.  This light went on about 100 miles ago but disappeared when she got an oil change.  Now, it's back with a vengeance, and I need to find a mechanic now!

Thanks for your help,
Lorna

Lorna, since we live so far from where you’re at I don’t have a personal recommendation.  If you have limited or poor internet service, then I’d be happy to do some online searches for you.  Please advise.

Edit.   This phone number is for Ford RV Customer Service which might help.   800-444-3311.

Thanks Ed and Margee -- Thanks for your offer to do some internet queries.  I do have very very slow internet and already checked for Ford service and other local mechanics.  No joy other than mobile RV services.  I'm on my way to town now to see if I can get any truck or RV recommendations down in the harbor.  Thank you again for your offer - and for caring.

Lorna, you'll probably need to travel a bit to find a mechanic in that area.  No recommendations but I did find this truck repair shop in Crescent City, about 30 miles to the south:

Greetings from Brookings, OR where my 2003 RB's "Service Engine" lit up my dashboard.
If you can make it to Gold Beach, I've had nothing but good experiences with
Precision Performance
93976 Ocean Way, Gold Beach, OR 97444
(541) 247-2232

Lately, they've become more reluctant to work on motorhomes.

You should at least be able to get a scan at
Carpenter Point S Tire & Auto Service
934 Chetco Ave., Brookings, OR 97415
(541) 469-6511

Good luck!

Lorna, I can't tell if you are heading north or south.  When I was going south last year from Reedsport through North Bend and Coos Bay, and when my transmission was going out... there was suddenly a very good RV shop near the  water, Bayshore Auto & RV Service,
They could diagnose almost any problem, even if they couldn't fix it.
1887 N Bayshore Dr, Coos Bay, OR 97420
Opens 8 AM Wed, Phone: (541) 269-2700

On the other hand, I've driven hundreds of miles with the service engine light on, which is quite often emissions issues and doesn't stop your vehicle.  Having an OBDI scanner can give you a hint, but finding a good shop is best..  The shop that finally did fix me was in Brookings though, and there are many wonderful mechanics there.

Lorna,

If it turns out that the Service Engine light is not a big thing and can wait until you get back… I’ve had good experiences with Razzari Commercial Truck Center in Merced (209-354-4111).  Make sure you ask for the truck center and not the auto center.  Their address is: 1610 W 16th St., Merced, CA 95304.
