New fuel line between gas tank and generator April 13, 2023, 12:56:21 pm I had a mechanic come to the house and he thinks it the fuel pump is dead. I have drained the tank down to 1/4 full and he is going to do replacement in my drive way. Some of you thought replacing the line from the tank to the generator should also be done. Could i have a little more info on that? The existing line is clear plastic with a sleeve over it. I drained the tank by disconnecting the fuel line at the generator and then pumping the fuel into a 5 gal gas can and then filling up my other cars. It took a couple of hours.Thank youMatt
Re: New fuel line between gas tank and generator Reply #1 – April 13, 2023, 01:14:05 pm The fuel pump for the generator is in the generator unit. Disconnect the fuel line at the generator and feed a temporary hose from there to a jar with a little gas sitting outside on the pavement. If the generator runs with this, its fuel pump works. the rubber hose is likely the culprit, and it is on top of the fuel tank.Steve 1 Likes
Re: New fuel line between gas tank and generator Reply #2 – April 13, 2023, 02:03:00 pm Hi Steve,The fuel pump for the E450 is not working. The pump is in the tank so we need to drop the tank. The generator is working fine. I should have made more clear. My question is as long as we are dropping the fuel tank I understand it is a good idea to replace the fuel line from the tank to the generator and wondering what to use for that.Thank you,Matt
Re: New fuel line between gas tank and generator Reply #3 – April 13, 2023, 02:07:51 pm I'm sure the generator was working fine when the previous owner replaced our fuel pump and did not replace the hose. 4-5 years latter the tank had to be dropped again to replace the generator hose. I would never replace the pump without taking advantage of the procedure to replace the hose! 5 buck part cost 500 buck repair 4 -5 years later.

No need to do this job twice.Larry
