Engine Insulation Replacement March 15, 2023, 09:25:38 pm Many years ago, Larry replaced the rat-destroyed insulation in my engine compartment. Recently, it came loose and I spent mega bucks for a local shop to pull the doghouse and re-install the insulation.Returning from Moro Bay, my feet and legs roasted on the 175 mile trip home -- hotter than when I took it in for repairs. Before I approach the local shop with demands and/or accusations, I'd appreciate (1) some advice for a preliminary approach to their tech writer; and (2) some simple information on which side should be "up"! Kidding aside, in which direction should the aluminum side face? And last, is there anything else I can do to eliminate the very uncomfortable heat at my feet. And before you ask, yes, the fan was on, and the h/c switch was set on cold. Thanks for your help,Lorna

The gasket could be misaligned or a latch not secured. The insulation job is pretty straightforward so I wouldn't think it would be the issue. Here's a few photos of mine to give you some reference. Under the carpet the doghouse has a piece of insulation on two corners. Inside the fiberglass structure there is an insulation insert. When I did mine I just added a layer of automotive insulation/sound reduction material to the insert and put it back together. Good luck to you.jor 1 Likes

This is the cause of the 'hot foot' syndrome.Rat damageRat damage | FlickrFord wanted a lot of money for a new insulation kit and a long lead time, a local speed shop provided the replacement insulation used to repair Lorna's LD. It was secure with high-temp spray adhesive and existing metal tabs...this was until the next time it happened.Cool-It Mat Thermo Tec | Thermo TecLarry
Re: Engine Insulation Replacement Reply #3 – March 17, 2023, 11:26:58 am Oh, the rats. That sure explains it. You have my sympathy. I have lots of experience with those little critters. I use a regimen of lights, peppermint and sonic devices along with frequent inspections to keep them at bay. Good luck to you.jor
