Finding information in The Companion

Where in The Companion can I find information about changing the front and rear clearance lights to new LED lights? I need the entire light.
I’ve looked for “clearance lights” and “marker lights” and just “lights” and come up empty. So I know if I ask this wise and wonderful group someone will lead me right to it.

Looking, I didn't see an article in the Companion pertaining to replacing the clearance lights.
I did find this on the forum.

Hi Tracy; I'm adding on to the old thread that Larry referenced above. I would use LED bulbs. Color emitters to match the shade of the lens. Red:   194 LED Bulb - 5 SMD LED Tower - Miniature Wedge Base | Super Bright LEDs and amber:   194 LED Landscape Light Bulb - 5 SMD LED Tower - Miniature Wedge Retrofit -.... ( I have no financial connection, just a satisfied customer for 10+ years)
They use less power, the bulb doesn't turn black as the tungsten filament coats the inside of the glass, and the color stays true if the lenses fade. Generally they don't burn out.
Browsing the internet doesn't show up any parts the correct size. Still looking...   RonB

Need sources of lens

[I added Super Bright to the text as the bulb source. Much preferable to bare URL's that change. The Companion has dozens of dead links due to the use of Bare URL's that give no clue where they once linked to.

Thanks Ron. I need the actual light units. Mine have disintegrated and must be replaced.

Etrailer has a wide assortment of LED clearance lights. It's been a good source of parts and customer service

Hi Tracy; odd that Foxtail lights has the correct Peterson caps, but not the bases. I'm still looking for a supply of those. Speculation was that some Chinese company would continue making them. Maybe with an improved design. I'm guessing that they (Peterson) sourced them from somebody else. RonB

They have this round one that MIGHT fit the older LD's. Would need someone to measure their round Peterson and compare to the specs of this one. If it fits (as large or larger) I will add it to the article.

Thanks Don; I only have spare caps (lenses) to measure and they are 2 1/2" in diameter (2.48 measured) and about 3/4" high (.78 measured). With the base, which seems to be unavailable anymore, the complete fixture is about an inch thick. The Optronics will fit in the end cap recess and stick out about 1/4" less which should be fine.
You will need a hole big enough for the connection wires to fit through to inside the end cap, and to push the wiring back into the hole after permanent connections are made. I bet the loose wires don't have a lot of excess loop, so don't drop them into the end cap. Red wire on the new fixture connected to black on the Lazy Daze, and white to white (ground).
New screw holes would be needed. Please use stainless screws. Judicious use of new sealant. My Peterson caps deteriorate in full sunlight, amber the worst. Red lasts about 6-8 years, and amber less at about 2-4 years. Polycarbonate not the best, but seems to be all any manufacturer uses. Because these are polycarbonate I expect they will have similar cracking and crazing in sunlight, so plan on having to replace them. The black base may survive the sunlight better than the Peterson white base. I don't see new caps for this Optronix light, but they must come apart to put the screws in, so just the top lens can be replaced. https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Lights/Optronics/MCL0040RBB.html The black background plastic as opposed to the white of the old Peterson base might affect the overall look some.
Edit: (originally I got this light confused with one that had a two pin connector in the back. This one has just the two wires out the back.) RonB

This is what some 16 year old rigs look like. My friends 2001 MB in 2017 when I bought it. At that time new bases were available along with lenses. RonB

So lenses are available, but not the whole assembly for older round clearance lights.
I wonder if the rectangular style would cover the holes of the round style?
If someone makes it work, maybe they will let me know and I will update the article.

Hi Don; The back wall is flat rolled down aluminum. So any size or shape of flush mounted lamp will do. The front wall or end cap has recessed depressions, so a new style or shape would have to cover the depression, or fit inside of it. The end cap changed in (I'm guessing) 2007, and has a semi rectangular shape. This shape also has depressions in the fiberglass that would be even harder to cover. Modern marker lights, taking advantage of one bright LED in the center, have gotten even smaller. That might fit in the post 2006 style caps. Original equipment replacements may still be available.
   I believe Lazy Daze went LED with the change to the new shape of front cap, no faux windows painted black, but I'm not sure which year or what shape the new marker lights were. That change was recent enough that it won't be an issue for some time still.
I found this video about different back side plugs. 927402-9 Grote Red Clearance Marker Lamp, A P2, P3, Permanent, Round |... Later in the video it describes different types of connectors shapes and sizes.
And these rectangular marker lights look similar to the new front cap Lazy Daze models.   Toolots, Inc. - Reliable Equipment Fast.

I got in the middle of this, just trying to help the OP out.

If I understand all I have read, doubtful, those with older rigs (2005 and older?) in need of clearance lights are SOL.

So don't drive under trees with low-hanging limbs.
