Catalytic converter replacement cost September 30, 2022, 06:38:11 pm A friend has a 2021 E450 (SOB); the catalytic converter was stolen from the rig, stored in an outside lot in the Bay Area of California. Insurance quotes to replace and install the catalytic converter ranged from $3500.00 to $5200.00; the “low” number was for a generic, the high for an OEM. The insurance company OK’ed a quote of $4500.00 for an OEM cat and installation.Granted, California has higher costs for a lot of things, so this is not a stunner, but I did wonder what people have paid to have an OEM cat replacement and installation in other states?
Re: Catalytic converter replacement cost Reply #1 – September 30, 2022, 06:44:58 pm Our local muffler shop told me they would charge $100 to weld one on if needed. On our 98~MB we have two, both are there now but I was checking with them when I had them put a shield back by the critical tire passenger inside rear. Must be that all of the cost is mostly in the unit itself? Karen~Liam 98 ~ MB NinA
Re: Catalytic converter replacement cost Reply #2 – September 30, 2022, 08:34:14 pm I had cat converter stolen and replaced in March, 2021. Total cost at Free Service Tire in Kingsport, TN, including new Ford OEM converter, was $1,293.15.
Re: Catalytic converter replacement cost Reply #3 – September 30, 2022, 09:03:30 pm I drive a 2015 E-350 van for my church. One of our CCs was stolen recently. I searched nationwide for an OEM part as California’s referee process for use of non-OEM is difficult (referee said to go there only as a last resort). I finally found one at a Huntington Beach Ford dealer priced at $2,500. Hearing Joan’s report for the 2021 model price this seems like a good deal!W 1 Likes
