FanTastic Vent and rain
This morning I set the front (over cab) and rear (lounge) FanTastic fans on exhaust and the speed to 70%.  Later in the day it started to rain.  At first nothing happened, so I waited to see if the auto-rain sensor really worked.  After a minute or so, the front fan motor shutdown and the vent lid automatically closed.  However when the rear vent automatically closed, the fan motor just continued to run.  No big deal and I’m wondering if this is something I should even bother with.  Help from the mothership is not an option anymore and I don’t know how much help calling Dometic would be.  Thoughts anyone?

On a FanTastic fan without the rain sensor feature, there's a small pin that the lid pushes down as it closes and turns the fan off.  If that pin is not working, then the fan will not turn off.   The pin is on the top section of the housing above the fan.  I think the only way to see and test that pin is from the top.   I routinely put a bit of grease on that pin as part of my PM schedule.

That's my best idea until someone comes along with other ideas.  There is a very helpful post with pictures of this pin somewhere on this forum.   Hope this helps.

Thanks Ed and Margie, I just had the rear vent opened with the motor turned off to look from the inside to see if I could see any pin.  While I was looking it started to rain again and the vent auto-closed.  At the same time a red light that is normally on all the time started blinking.  I didn’t see any pin but then again, I was looking from the inside.  I’m wondering if the red led may be 1/2 of an electric eye to sense if the vent is closed.  The manual is not very helpful either.  If I have to go up on the roof, it won’t be until there’s no rain in the forecast.

BTW, I’m camped at Lake Kaibab USFS near Williams, AZ.  Today it got up to low-mid 90s but the temp dropped 10 degrees with the first shower and another 10 degrees with this latest shower.  High humidity but the lower temps feel great.

No, it's just an annoying pilot light. As Ed said, the lid sensor is a simple plunger switch.

Thanks Andy and Ed, I did some googling and found the location of the “vent plunger switch”.  I’ll have to wait until it’s dry but now I know what I’m looking for.  Also, the flashing red light indicates that the rain sensor sensed rain and it’s still wet.  I know I should have googled it first but… thanks!
