LD RB
I have been reading past posts but can not find any posts on dislikes (or cons) with the rear bath model. Any input would be significant. Thank you.

Own a rear bath and it’s awesome. No cons. Couches behind the driver keep the family together.

Sam, It boils down to personal preference. Everyone has their good reasons for which floor plan suits them.
For us, what immediately impressed us when stepping into a rear bath for the first time was the openness of the interior. There was no feeling of being crowded. The large bath area when the door is closed made for a nice dressing room, shower, and spacious toilet area (with a good view out the back).  The only drawback is when the bath door is closed it blocks access to the refrigerator. That is easily solved by pushing the door in a short way to open the ref. doors. The large windows give great cross ventilation for the entire interior. Both cab seats can lean & slide back fully for personal preference.  The dinette seats have good storage underneath. We had LD add doors at the end of the seats for better access to the storage area. The closet width is very good.
Outside, I like having one sewer drain port for both black and gray tanks. I also like having the toilet directly  over the black tank where it is easy to check the water level in the tank just by looking down through the toilet (with a flashlight) without depending on the gauges. It is also good to have a spare tire in the back. Exterior storage is very good.
All the above reasons is why we are on our second rear bath since 2010.

We've owned a RB for 19 years and I honestly can't think of anything I would change. It's what would be called a central hall floor plan if it were a house. You enter between the living room and the kitchen. One to the right, one to the left, with the overhead "bedroom" beyond the living room and the bath out of the way beyond the kitchen.

But at the same time it is one big room, that I guess would be called a great room if it were a house. We like being able to be together in that space even though we're doing different things, most often one in the kitchen cooking (usually my wife) and one in the living room. And both the living room and kitchen have direct access to the outdoors. So if my wife is cooking and I'm outside grilling our communication and interaction are easy.

We ordered the second couch in place of the barrel chairs and table, a modification I highly recommend, as it gives each of us a couch to relax/lie on and it creates an additional very convenient outside storage locker.

We don't use the generator much but I like that it is on the driver's side of the coach isolating it from our usual outdoor space on the passenger side.

We find the views from the RB to be fine, though perhaps not as dramatic in some cases as the three sided view out the back of a Mid-Bath. I think the view situation comes down to what type of site you're camped in. Some orient to the sides, some to the rear. In either case if I'm really into the view I go outside.

And of course the RB is the "party plan." If you anticipate entertaining it's great for that because of the one large space. For a simple gathering we can easily have 4-6 people in the living area on the two couches, and another 2-4 in the dinette. And we've served a sit down dinner for 8 in our RB, 4 in the dinette and 4 more in the living area at the accessory table that can be erected between the two couches (that table might be standard or an option; I don't remember). We never anticipated doing that but at some cold weather campouts with friends we have. Great fun.

But to each his own. One thing I've noticed at RV shows is that a lot of purchase decisions seem to be made on initial dramatic impact, something that "grabs" the purchasers, as opposed to understanding long term practicality and usefulness. I think it is important to take the time to imagine your typical day in the coach. I recommend taking substantial time to evaluate this, perhaps starting with arriving at a camp site and setting up, then on through your first evening, whatever your routine is, and into bed. Then arising the next morning and going through a typical day in and around the coach. Get in and out of the bed, up and down off the toilet, in and out of the shower, making meals, cleaning up, relaxing, stepping outside and back in, then departing, going to the dump station, etc. etc. I would spend a couple of hours in each plan you're considering if possible, or at least try to visualize all this and discuss at length. Sort of playing house.

You won't go wrong with any LD floor plan (as you easily can with other brands I think) but, yes, you may find one suits you better.

Sam,

I won’t say much about the RB and what I do say that is a “con” would not have me purchasing a different LD floor plan.

Everything that has been said, so far, is why we purchased our ‘15 RB from the Mothership.

Here are my only cons. If I was not 6’ tall, this con wouldn’t exist. There are two “bump” hazards for my head (non existent for my wife’s 5’6” tall frame). The first one is the cabinet that is behind and above the forward dinette seat. It actually straddles the seats back rest and is mounted on the ceiling on the drivers side.

In the past, I would bump my head on its padded edge on every journey at least once. That was usually enough to focus my attention for the rest of the trip.

More recently, I only graze my scalp but only slightly. Perhaps as I grow older and loose altitude, I will avoid the occurrence completely. 🤪

The second “bump” hazard is in the Bath area. The medicine chest is just above the sink. I can graze my head on it while rising from the “thrown” or getting up from the floor. This occurs rarely and I’m thankful for that.

Like I said, if one is a few inches shorter than me, then these bumps to the head will not occur. The cabinets are padded slightly so I’ve never knocked myself out. 🥴

The passenger seat on all the floor plans present a bump hazard of it’s own (if you have the backup camera monitor mounted in the rear view mirror area). My DW has risen too quickly from the seat and  knocked herself really hard. I have since then padded the monitor to soften any further close encounters.

Again, if I needed too, I’d purchase the RB again for all the same reasons as mentioned by the other RB owners.

The RB is the only LD we have ever been in - so I can't give you any comparison to the other floor plans.

We absolutely enjoy the openness of the RB and would see no reason to change.

If you are coming through Las Vegas anytime in the near future, send me a private message for my cell number.  If you would like to visit our 2010 RB let me know.

Cheers!

Thank you for the offer! Every RV owner we have met has gone out of their way to be kind.

In our opinion, the RB has two (2) drawbacks that wouldn’t work for us.   If owners travel with children or friends, the RB lacks privacy.  Secondly, we thoroughly enjoy our 270 degree lounge as evidenced by our current view.   So it all depends on a range of personal preferences as mentioned above.

That is indeed a drawback. Any other dislikes? This group usually is not afraid to share their opinions. The more knowledge, the better.

Ditto for us. After owning a TK previously, I found the rear lounge view difficult to give up; and we like the separation of areas, especially in the mornings when one of us (usually me) gets up early to make coffee and the other one sleeps in.

That being said, I find a lot about the RB that I like that the MB doesn't have, such as the large bath area, single dump connection, large exterior storage compartment on the driver's side, etc.  If we both slept in the overhead cab, we could probably deal with the lack of privacy that the openness of the RB provides but we don't.  But, then there is that 270 degree view that the MB has!!!  It's all about personal preferences and needs in the end.  Good luck with your decision.  Either way you can't go wrong!

The midbath comes with a useful built in spice rack by the side entry door.  Does the rear bath come with a factory installed spice rack?

Paul,

The spice rack on the RB is mounted on the inside (on the cabinet door) of the lower kitchen cabinet below the kitchen sink.

Plenty of space for spices and some canned goods.

Kent, it’s a good thing, the spice rack is included, or no one would want a RB 😂

One downside of the RB for us is the sleeping arrangement. My wife and I always sleep together, which would require pulling both of the couches out, to make a large bed.
The pulled-out couches block passage to the driver and passenger seats. To eliminate this, each morning, we would have to roll up and put away the bedding and then slide the couches back in, more work than what I want to deal with daily.
With an MB, the bedding can be left as, if desired without interfering with moving around in the interior. This is something many MB owners do, especially when on the move.

Beyond this issue, the RB 'party model' is a good floorplan, it has a very open feeling with all the large windows.

Indeed…as Larry said, “ To eliminate this, each morning, we would have to roll up and put away the bedding…”

Kinda like poking yourself in the eye every day…”It hurts when I do this”. Simple response…”Don’t do that”. We don’t. We did at first but we got really tired of it very quickly.

Now both beds are widened enough to provide a comfortable sleeping 🛌 area with a walkway between them. Add a bunch of throw pillows for day use as a couch and you’re in. Perfect for movie night or daytime guests.

The open concept of the RB sold us. We rarely travel with guests. However, there is always room for one more.

We don’t see what we do as a compromise. We need the open space and the RB suits us fine.

Works for us.
