350 vs. 450
First Post

We've had several Class A diesel pushers and always pulled a toad. Now we'd like to downsize to a Class C, preferably 22 to 26' or so. We're on the lookout for an LD and if one happens to pop up we might get lucky. My thinking is if we end up towing we would be better off with a 450. I've looked at the Pocket Guide on the site but don't see any information on the chassis model. Do the older shorter LDs (let's say 2000 to 2005) come on the 450 chassis? Thanks.

Starting in 2003, LD built the 23.5' models on an E450 chassis. Earlier models were E350s.
The V10 E350s tow OK, due to their lighter weight but they have a very limited CCC.

"I've looked at the Pocket Guide on the site but don't see any information on the chassis model."

Jor, take another look at the Pocket Guide's Changes list. The chassis model is noted for every model of every year. E.g.,

2001
23.5' model, Ford E350 chassis, GVWR: 11,500 lb., 305 HP/6.8 liter/415 c.i.d. V10 engine, electronic fuel injection, or optional 7.3 liter Power Stroke diesel V8. 4R100 4-speed auto transmission

Larry is correct that the 23.5' model didn't start using the E450 chassis until 2003.

Thanks, guys. Just the information I need. And I will, indeed, take another look. I think I would be more comfortable with the heavier duty 450. Probably end up with a Winnebago or something but I'm hoping that a nice little LD or Born Free will materialize, preferably right here in Tucson!!! How's that for wishful thinking? Meanwhile I'll just lurk around here and learn what I can about your great Lazy Daze rigs.

An E450 would be the smart move, it's a much stronger chassis.
Good luck with your search.
