Door Width November 04, 2021, 02:21:24 pm Hello! I was looking at a 95 LD and the door width was 22". I really need a door width of 23" minimum which I know came later. I looked at the floor plans but measurements aren't listed. Does anyone know when the doors were widened? I'm now trying to narrow in on a 2000 or newer. Hoping those are wide enough. FYI: I have a daughter in a wheelchair. She's super light and so is her chair. I just need to get her chair through the door without having to collapse it every time. She doesn't need any modification such as a lift or anything, just need to have her chair with us. I may have to add a carrier to the back, but would prefer to have her chair out of the elements. Thanks!Cynthia 1 Likes
Re: Door Width Reply #1 – November 04, 2021, 03:38:10 pm I measured the entry door opening on my 2003 TK; the actual width of the opening between the frame for the screen door is 20.5”. I don’t know when -or if- the width of the entry door frame changed, factoring in the frame for the screen door, or if the entry widths vary among models.
Re: Door Width Reply #2 – November 04, 2021, 04:17:38 pm Wow, this may not be possible. Darn. Maybe one day I can actually see one in person! The doors always look narrow in the photos. Maybe when I find a good contender I’ll just have to see how wide it is and then decide. Thanks!
Re: Door Width Reply #3 – November 04, 2021, 05:03:21 pm The Lazy Daze Caravan Club is having a gathering at Cachuma Lake, a Santa Barbara County park, Nov. 30-Dec. 5. If the location and timing are convenient for you, it’s a good opportunity to see a lot of LDs of various floor plans and model years.
Re: Door Width Reply #4 – November 04, 2021, 06:11:23 pm Hello,Interestingly, Winnebago makes a Class B van camper with accessibility in mind, called The Roam. With a van, they have the advantage of a wide sliding door, and of course this camper is much smaller than a Lazy Daze, but I think it is great that they are looking to serve this market. Re: Door Width Reply #5 – November 04, 2021, 06:33:52 pm Hi Cynthia; In 2006 the year that the 'anniversary' model came out, The WagonMaster of the Caravan Club showed up with their new rig at an outing. One thing donated to the first arrival to her door, was the faux stained glass window that had been made for their old rig. We got (first one there) it for our '99 TK. The reason is that the new 2006 LD had a bigger window and the insert wouldn't fit. It is of a hot air balloon and was apropo for the recent AIBF. Going out on a limb, I think that was year that the new door latch and lock mechanism showed up. Lifting up on the door handle to get out of the rig instead of up or down on the handle to exit our 'mature' rig. (New lock mechanisms are no longer available from Bargeman as of 2006). So I would place that as the likely year that the coach door changed width. RonB Evidently the Fed instituted new door lock safety standards and Bargeman discontinued the door lock. Vintage Trailer Supply has old ones reconditioned, but chrome. They may have black ones available also. L-300 Lock Reconditioned 1 Likes
