Starlink on the way November 01, 2021, 01:35:52 pm Not sure anyone here cares but SpaceX is shipping my Starlink antenna.I have figured out the temporary roof mounting only when stationary. Will have to wait till it arrives to work on the cable through the wall thing.Won’t be at my service address till March so will have to decide whether I wait till then or see how the move the service address thing works. Anyhow, I didn’t expect it for months!
Re: Starlink on the way Reply #1 – November 01, 2021, 02:13:36 pm Are you in a fixed location? Unless things have changed recently, Starlink usage is currently limited to one location. In other words, you can't drive around and expect to use it at different campsites. From Starlink : Help CenterQuoteCan I move Starlink to a different Service Address, or use it on a moving vehicle?Service is only guaranteed at the Service Address on your order. If you move Starlink outside of its assigned area, a satellite will not be scheduled to serve Starlink and you may not receive internet or may receive degraded service. At this time, we are not able to support moves to a different country. Please note - By changing your Service Address, you may not be able to return to your original address. Once updated, service at your previous address will be disconnected. Our teams are actively working to make it possible to use Starlink on a moving vehicle (e.g. automobiles, RVs, boats), but for now we can only guarantee service at the Service Address on your Account.Real world experience (and issues):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGZUr65EoD0&ab_channel=MobileInternetResourceCenterMobile usage is probably coming, but there are some technical and policy limitations to overcome. Re: Starlink on the way Reply #2 – November 01, 2021, 02:28:52 pm It is not mobile but it is movable. You get online, move your location, and it instantly shuts down your old location and activates your new one. That is good enough for me. Will let you know the results. My service address is Moab, Utah, I’m in Phoenix, AZ. Doubt that I will change the service address to Phoenix but I’m traveling over Thanksgiving staying a week in Boise, Idaho. Will try it then. The big question right now is power. I’m expecting 10 amps at 12 volt, which is a bunch.

It _might_ activate at your new location - if there is a starlink cell in that area, and if that cell has any available capacity. or it might not, and you can find yourself unable to re-activate at your home location. Starlink holds A LOT of promise, but it's far from mature technology right now. Rich 1 Likes
Re: Starlink on the way Reply #4 – November 01, 2021, 03:05:22 pm Yep, and I’ll let you know how it goes.Would have preferred to have the RV antenna which no one has even seen a picture of. Decided I’d rather have an account up an running and be part of the roll out rather than watch it from the sidelines.I will want to use it in March. With all the people waiting for antennas I certainly didn’t expect one anytime soon. By then they may even be shipping RV antennas but I won’t have to stand in line to get an account. You would be amazed how easy it is to change your location. Just move a dot on a map! This doesn’t guarantee service at the new location but it certainly makes the move easy. No coordinates, no address, no guessing. 2 Likes

An active internet life could consume a lot of amp-hours.Very interested in how well this new sateliite system works, cellular access in so many rural areas is limited and slow, in the more popular park areas, access can become non-existent after 6PM. Re: Starlink on the way Reply #6 – November 01, 2021, 10:24:21 pm 200 watts of solar on the roof, so not much. 400AH of lithium and 210AH of T-105 flooded lead acid with a generator and chargers that can charge at 120 amps.I have chargers rated at 200 amps for lithium and 40 for FLA. The lithium chargers are two 60 amp and one 80 amp. They are smart chargers that interfere with each other therefore are not additive and peak out at 100-120 amps. I contacted the manufacturer about how to get more out of them. They gave me the number of a tech to call but I never did. 120 amps made for pretty short generator runs. I may give him a call. The antenna runs on AC. I have a 1500 watt inverter. Thanks for the interest. Will keep you informed. Initially I plan to VHB tape mount their “Volcano” mount on the roof, run the cable through the standard LD roof feed into the cabinet beneath. Antenna to be removed to travel. I can rebroadcast the Wifi and the initial thought was to rebroadcast it to anyone nearby. Reading the terms of service it says “within a residence.” SpaceX may not take kindly to one hub having 50 users so I’ll probably keep it password protected but am more than willing to share, especially in a location with no cell service. No data limits at the present time.Maybe I’ll give them a call and ask if it is all right to rebroadcast as a promotional thing. Many other problems to solve first.Of course I may smoke the whole thing with my gasoline furnace which has yet to arrive. Back ordered.
