Fuel to generator on 2000LD October 07, 2021, 08:45:52 pm Generator quit ...just stopped running after 25 seconds......and I suspect fuel pump HOWEVER...NO FUEL runs out of hose from gasoline tank ..after disconnecting fuel pump ..even when I lower hose to ground. I thought fuel would flow thru hose from gas tank. It flows on my 1985 LD, when I lower hose to lower level. Gas tank is full. I have bought new pump, but have not installed yet. WHY DONT FUEL FLOW BY GRAVITY? I am confused. HELP PLEASE...THANKS.
Re: Fuel to generator on 2000LD Reply #1 – October 07, 2021, 09:12:47 pm If you can't suck fuel through the line from the generator to the tank, suspect a leak in the fuel hose letting air into the line. I've seen deteriorated cracked hoses, as well as hoses damaged. by rodents. You can try pushing / blowing air back through the line to see if it is otherwise clear. If you listen carefully, you should hear air bubbles in the tank. I have used a plunger like this one to push air in/out and troubleshoot.Amazon.com: FloTool 10111/6 Mixmizer Injector : AutomotiveRich 1 Likes As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.
Re: Fuel to generator on 2000LD Reply #2 – October 07, 2021, 09:20:07 pm Two possible causes .Leaky, rotted fuel line, up at the tank and/or a siphon needs to be established. Do this at your own risk.Mostly likely the rubber fuel line, up on top of the tank is rotted and leaks air. It’d quite common on rigs of your vintage.Larry

Re: Fuel to generator on 2000LD Reply #6 – October 15, 2021, 07:48:30 pm I don't know about the 80's vintage generators, but the 2000's versions have a fuel filter immediately upstream of the fuel pump. Trace the fuel line coming into the generator and you should see it if there is one. Rich

Re: Fuel to generator on 2000LD Reply #15 – October 16, 2021, 05:09:23 pm 2 things you can do if you're trying to figure out what's going on with your fuel system.(1) Disconnect the fuel line from the carburetor and direct it into a safe container (glass jar or gas can or something). Prime the generator. This _should_ cause the fuel pump to pump fuel from the tank and into the new container. Lack of fuel means you are not getting fuel from the tank to the genset.(2) Disconnect the fuel line at the filter, and use a short piece of fuel hose to draw fuel directly from a fuel container. If everything runs, the pump and the generator work, and the fuel delivery problem is upstream (between the filter and the coach fuel tank). This video explains (1). You might not have the same generator, but the principle applies.https://youtu.be/U72Zmk0BF-o?t=224Rich
Re: Fuel to generator on 2000LD Reply #16 – October 16, 2021, 06:13:51 pm Put your hand in front of the carburetor without the air filter to manually choke it. See if that will get it to run. Squirting propane or ether into the intake can tell you something. If it fires then fuel is not coming out of the carb. A replacement carb can be found on Ebay for $30-40. With that you have replaced the entire fuel system.Let us know if you can get it running by manually choking, propane or starter fluid.
