Attaching Reflectix to the Shower Dome September 08, 2021, 01:29:36 pm I really like the shower dome in the MB model but noticed it lets in a huge amount of heat. I cut a piece of Reflectix type material and am looking for ideas on how best to attach it to the dome. Ideally, I would like to be able to attach and remove it easily as conditions warrant.I also cut squares for the three FF vents but can use the factory purchased covers to hold the Reflectix on those.
Re: Attaching Reflectix to the Shower Dome Reply #1 – September 08, 2021, 01:35:08 pm We hang our towels in the shower dome area using adjustable curtain rods inside the shower dome. (A great way to dry towels) This eliminates the majority of the heat unless it is 100 plus outside then we go with the aluminum insulated sheet. 1 Likes

Re: Attaching Reflectix to the Shower Dome Reply #3 – September 08, 2021, 02:02:30 pm We also use adjustable spring rods, and use them to hold a reflectix panel in place. I think I first found the idea here:RV Modifications Tips - Dozen Quickies | Lolo's Extreme Cross Country RV TripsRich
Re: Attaching Reflectix to the Shower Dome Reply #4 – September 08, 2021, 02:29:58 pm Maybe a slightly oversized block of foam? With the reflectix on top, it would provide even more insulation. Quick and easy to put up and take down, but storage might be a downside.Art 1 Likes

Ideally, I would like to be able to attach and remove it easily as conditions warrant.Actually, I don't like the shower dome in my mid-bath and just had it replaced (crack). I "almost" had the person who worked on my RV fabricate a permanent cover. At home in Southern New Mexico I have several sky lights in my townhome and had a local seamstress sew covers with a one inch hem on two ends that are attached with two adjustable rods that you can buy at Wal*Mart and some thermal backed curtains from a thrift store. I did something similar in my RV, but used screen material (Coolaroo) and draped it more. In retrospect, I wish I would have had the shade made taut like in my home and for more shade and it would have been easy to slip a piece of Reflectix in-between. I guess I could make another trip to the seamstress... 1 Likes
Re: Attaching Reflectix to the Shower Dome Reply #8 – September 08, 2021, 07:36:09 pm My previous Class C had a large tinted dome in the shower that made it too hot in the summer and too cold in cool months. I stopped the heat by spraying the outside of the dome with a thin coat of white paint (lots of light still came through); I stopped the cold with the heat shrinkable window insulation film on the inside frame of the bubble, creating a large dead air space. Both methods cheap and easy. My current Class C doesn't have a dome or a window in the bathroom, and my wife and I are delighted: cool in the summer, warm in the cool months. A flick of a switch gives us all the light we want. It does have the usual vent fan, of course.
Re: Attaching Reflectix to the Shower Dome Reply #9 – September 08, 2021, 09:15:00 pm For this kind of job I often use Snads. This are large snaps with clear adhesive backs. Get a handful of Snads and a snap kit, and you're read to mount fabric anywhere. For example, I used Snads to attach a light-blocking panel on the door window of my Trillium mini-trailer, which had no shade. The light poured in in the morning and kept me from sleeping late. I'm about to do the same to my Airstream, for the same reason. They'd work fine for covering the inside of the shower skylight, and you could make the cover an inch or two oversized if you wanted. 5 Likes As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.

Re: Attaching Reflectix to the Shower Dome Reply #11 – September 10, 2021, 03:38:54 pm I used some Command Picture Hanging Strips to secure the Reflectix. It really cuts down on the heat! Also installed a couple inexpensive adjustable rods from Wal*Mart to hang stuff. 3 Likes
