Escapees Roadside Service June 07, 2021, 02:49:44 pm I am currently with AAA roadside service for the RV. I know many are critical of AAA for RV towing and are fans of Coachnet but I was wondering if anyone is using Escapees roadside service? If so, what are your impressions?
Re: Escapees Roadside Service Reply #1 – June 07, 2021, 05:06:25 pm Years ago (when I first met Lazy Daze Steve) I was disabled on the side of the road and thought I needed a tow to a repair facility. I called AAA and told them my situation, they will call me back, 45 minutes later they called and requested more information which I provided, they will call me back. 1 hour later they called and asked if I was safe while on the side of the road, I replied that I was off the road with about 15 feet between me and the road edge, they will call me back. 30 minutes later they told me that it would be 3 days before they could get a rig big enough to get me to a repair facility. Needless to say I was shocked. In the mean time this 'guy' (Lazy Bones) pulls over and introduces as another Lazy Daze owner who is camped just down the road. While I was parked there the Highway Patrol made a stop to see if all was ok and left after hearing that AAA was called (this is before I knew it would be 3 days for service. By this time I discovered that all I needed was some bailing wire to tie up the hydraulic pump that fell because it's mounting bracket. Steve mentioned that the campground owner had a tow truck and probably help me, so ho went back to the campground and shortly thereafter the tow truck showed up and fixed my problem so that I could get back on the road, charged me 'nothing' but I insisted on giving him $20.00 for his time and gas (I was grateful). I was back on my travels. AAA never called me back with an update on when the tow truck would be there. Needless to say I was pi###d. That is when I heard about Coachnet here on the LD Yahoo groups and have had them ever since. Fortunately (knock on wood) I have not had the need to get service from them and hope that I never do. But at least I have peace of mind hearing stories here that their service is good.I'm sure you will hear other stories, good luck on your next decision ☺ 9 Likes

What with all the sparks flying out from under your rig I half expected to see the whole thing disappear in a ball of flame. Thank heaven you spotted that patch of turf to swing into, even if it was on the left side of the road. 4 Likes

We've not had occasion to use it, however, so can't speak to how responsive they are. If interested, you might want to post your question over on the Escapees Forum...I know there are some people over there who have used it. 2 Likes

Re: Escapees Roadside Service Reply #7 – June 10, 2021, 09:28:59 am Thanks, Kristin and Linda. Went and looked at some of the posts from the Escapees forum. Sounds like the Escapees program has had some issues in the past, especially when they first rolled it out a few years back. Obviously, you are a big fan of CoachNet but I’ve heard some bad reviews of them as well. My AAA coverage is up for renewal. I know there have been some issues with them also but perhaps I’ll just use them for this year since it is so inexpensive. I also still have a year left on the Ford Roadside Assistance from the original 5-year warranty. I’ve already used it once so know it works.

We have used them twice with excellent response both times. One time we were towed 70+ miles to a repair facility (in Lubbock, TX) with no additional cost. The other time when we were towed a long way to Chattanooga, TN. One late evening the tow truck driver let us stay in his shop yard overnight before finishing the trip to the repair shop (Ford) the next morning. Again, no additional cost. CoachNet also has a tire replacement program for additional $$. They also cover Canada & Alaska. It just takes a call to subscribe. 6 Likes

Both times their service providers arrived within the predicted time frame and they did what they were supposed to do. That is not common these days. I don't understand what you are debating here? Nothing is perfect but their services, as far as I know, has been exemplary.Steve K.

We used it once for the tow vehicle on the Friday of the Fourth of July headed to the tip of Cape Cod. We were without the RV in that we were headed for The Family Headquarters. Excellent service. Next time was on Moving Day...April 1st in snowbird-land...AZ! RV Battery was fine the day before and dead the day of (I wrote here about that situation as a battery cautionary tale). There was no possibility of staying on another day or two in that the RV park required monthly rentals only. While we had to wait a couple of hours, a huge tow truck with a very capable driver.From our experiences...never travel without Coach-Net. One call was handled quickly and with expertise and another with my boat trailer was very good, both in San Diego. A second call a few years ago outside of Show Low resulted in the arrival of the two dumbest tow operators I have ever encountered. I had to coach them on what to do and not do (do not lift my Lazy Daze with the jack under the differential!) and they needed me to provide several tools and my compressor because their tools were inadequate and their compressor didn't work. Duhhhhhh...One of the guys was proud of the fact that he had just gotten a dishonorable discharge from the USMC. There are some things that one should not brag about.We are likely switching to Coach Net.Harold 5 Likes

Quick and easy.The original Insurance carrier eventually cancelled us when they stopped RV insurance.We went to AAA for RV insurance but couldn’t get insurance without the Roadside Service. Never needed the road service before I went back to Coach-Net. AAA will not allow us to drop the Roadside Service without cancelling the RV insurance. Now we have both Roadside Services. AAA and Coach-Net. If we need roadside service in the future my First choice will be Coach-Net based on our past experiences.This is what we did when my wife’s car broke down. Coach-Net covers all our cars with no limits on usage. AAA is good for three calls, I believe.Covered as many bases as I could.Kent 2 Likes
