Traveling with a New Pup May 17, 2021, 02:20:06 pm We'll be traveling with a wee pup later this summer (about 8 weeks old when we pick her up).Wondering if anyone has any hints or suggestions?

For us, a key was to get the dog to recognize the RV as home - a safe place to hang out that the people will return to.We tend to close the blinds and open the bathroom door when we leave the dog alone since it reduces the number of things for the dog to see and worry/bark about. It also keeps do-gooders from seeing the dog inside and thinking they need to 'rescue' him by calling someone. It also keep the dog from unlocking the front doors by accident.We hung a small basket by the front door (near the fire extinguisher) where we keep a leash and a supply of plastic bags. For a young pup, you really don't have any choice but to limit the length of time when they are left alone. Develop good habits early...it really pays off.Just about everything else can be like it is at home. Lots of people RV with their dogs. We joke that Class A's must come with an ankle biter free of charge. Rich 3 Likes

Re: Traveling with a New Pup Reply #4 – May 17, 2021, 06:32:30 pm Kitty, I suggest you begin crate training your pup as soon as you get her, in a place around her people, where she feels safe and comfortable. I did with my 2 yr. old, and it's one of the best things I've done for both of us. Whether in the house, car or RV, all I have to do is tap on the top of the crate and she goes right in because she knows it as a safe place. I have a collapsible crate (more room) when we're at home, and a pet carrier in the car and the RV. No matter which, she goes right in, stays quietly when I leave, and always sleeps in it at night. Re: Traveling with a New Pup Reply #5 – May 18, 2021, 12:18:15 am if this is your first rv dog, be ready for fur everywhere, so make sure you have a broom and vac always handy.We keep a towel by the door to clean up paws, but when super dirty, there is this paw cleaner called "mud buster" which is great for super muddy paws.On top of that, we like to keep a blanket on the couch when traveling so that they don't get dirty when paws are on the couches. 1 Likes
Re: Traveling with a New Pup Reply #6 – May 18, 2021, 12:43:54 am I think Lydia and Robin came up with a fix for the accidental unlocking of the cab doors. Might either be in the Companion or in the Ladeze notes. I found packages of chewing gum (in Thailand!!!) that once I removed the "tops", I could duct tape the covers over the switches for a perfect fit. Still use them today! 1 Likes
