Would you put a digital piano in the over-cab bunk?
Just looking to get some opinions on this topic.  We have a digital piano that needs to get across the country, and it would fit nicely in the bunk.  It weighs about 125-140 pounds. It is disassembled, so it would tuck into the area at the back of the bunk/very front of the nose of the cab-over area with some space for light padding behinds it.  It appears that this would distribute the weight over the support structure of the cab.

We're wondering if it's a reasonable idea.  300 pounds of sleeping people stationary is not necessarily the same thing as 125 pounds going down the road, so any observations welcome.

Hey Barb,

Most definitely you could put an electric piano up there while traveling. We regularly have two to three kids (between 70 and 150 pounds) in the over cab area while barreling down the road.

I'd have no reservations about it.

Not an issue.   The amount of weight is the same no matter if you are moving or not moving.   If you don't exceed the weight limits of the front end components it should not be an issue.

ps make sure your tire pressure is ok with the weights also.

You might want to do something so when it bounces it wants to move to the front and not the rear.  I have had items in the overhead “walk” out of their assigned spot. One a Nikon D300 and f2.8 Zoom that came very close to my head.  Some extra blankets or if the bed is unfolded a bit of wood under the two corners so there is a slight slope to the front.

Wouldn’t you get cramped trying to play it up in the bunk?

Depends on where the keyboard rests.  Put the keyboard aft and a platform between the seats and boogie on.
