Fat tire Ebike fun February 20, 2021, 01:12:28 pm We decided to leave the Jeep at home for a quick trip to Anza Boreggo and just ride the fat tire ebikes instead.We explored sandy desert trails within 15 miles of our campsite. The fat tire bikes float over the sand and Cyndy was fearless about exploring trails we haven't been on before. After two hours of exploring, we still had over half of the battery charge remaining. It was a lot of fun and the only downside of not having the Jeep was that Mr. Tug had to stay in camp.The ebikes have been an experiment. They are a nice addition to our Lazy Daze adventure.Harold 8 Likes

However, we put a robust rack on the back of the coach and put the bikes on that. The bikes weigh about 1 1/2 bags of dog food in weight an I only have to lift them about 18 inches to put them on the rack. Lift with the legs, not the back. I have also carried them on the back of the Jeep.When I get too feeble to lift the bikes, I'll have Cyndy load them.HD 4 Likes

Our camping friends have been using one just like it for their fat tire ebikes over the past year and it has been a durable rack, thus my purchase. I use two anti-rattle clips to reduce movement of the rack and the bikes. I watch the bikes on the rack while driving over bumpy roads and it looks secure.I do have to use a hitch extender to get past the phony spare tire cover on the back of the Lazy Daze.HD 4 Likes

We will have to do that on a short trip before our longer trip planned for the summer.My concern with the Jeep and the e-bikes together together behind the LD is that when out with the Jeep, I don't want the bikes on the rack, especially if we are going off pavement. That means leaving the bikes in camp with the rig, potentially increasing the chance of theft. I have a 3/8" Pewag chain that would slow down a thief, but it adds complication to our recreation time.Last summer, I towed the Jeep with mountain bikes on a rack to Colorado and back and it was easy. I may go that route this summer as well. Besides that, I get a better work out with a pedal mountain bike.HD 1 Likes

My wife has balance issues so we only have one. I use the bike everywhere we go, it is a great addition to the rig. Growing up I never used a Helmet riding a bike but a few months ago I did take a spill and was grateful I was wearing a Helmet. 3 Likes

I found I can stuff two folding bikes in the back of the Jeep and avoid using the rack.I decided to not go this route for three reasons:1. The folded Rad Mini still weighs 70lb. with the battery and about 60 with the battery removed. It is smaller when folded, but still just as heavy and is a handful wrestling it into the Jeep, especially the second one. I can load our fat bikes on the rack by myself because it is a shorter and less involved lift. No twisting and bending.2. The Rad Mini uses smaller wheels and tires and I prefer the larger 26 inch wheels for rolling over rocks on unpaved trails.3. Tug (95lb. dog) likes to travel in the back of the Jeep and the bikes take up his space.Consequently we bought full-size 26 inch wheel fat bikes and like them. They weigh 70lb. with the battery, easily roll over rocks, sand and bumps, and ride on the rack. Most importantly, Cyndy likes them.Harold

They are trying to compete with Rad by offering a grade up in all components compared to the Rad, use 52V batteries as opposed to the 48 volt batteries, have hydraulic disk brakes front and back, and use a torque sensor in addition to the cadence sensor, which makes the power delivery very smooth. We rode both bikes and liked the Juiced bikes better. They have been reliable and fun. Our friends have Rads and really like them as well.Harold 3 Likes

I disagree. The Juiced web site is very informative and easy to navigate. All details of each bike is easily obtained. I wish the fat tire bike had a low step-thru. It is too high for my wife. The smaller bikes would work for her. But at 6 foot 2 inches I would look out of place on them. The smaller bikes have a ~70 mile range though....hmmmm They are on sale now. Have to think about them...Ron

The campgrounds were near full, but quiet. Everyone was thoughtful and respectful. The temps were in the mid to high 70s. The winds were moderate. The bike riding was excellent. 3 Likes
