Sewer hose hanging up in TK storage compartment
Our TK has been a delight but I’ve been having issues storing a Prest-O-Fit sewer hose in the storage tube. The TK storage tube has a right angle to it so when the hose is inserted it has to navigate this bend as it slides toward the rear of tube. Typically I have to try pushing it into tube several times before it slides past some unseen obstacle in the storage tube. BTW the storage tube has all these ridges along the whole length. Kind of reminds me of the black plastic drain pipe used in French drains.

I think what’s happening is the sewer hose is hitting up against some of these ridges at he bend of the compartment preventing it from easily sliding into the tube. This might be exasperated because of the  rigid flange end of the Prest-O-Fit hose. Has anyone experienced this issue. I really like the Prest-O-Fit system so I hope to keep using it.

Try this.  As you push it in, twist it so it rotates at the end.  It will probably slip past the bend easily.

Yes, that is my technique. Sometimes it works sooner and sometimes later. Sometimes it can take longer than it takes the tank to drain.

I’m thinking of taking my saws all and cutting a 1 inch wide slit the full length of the tube. Then when the hose jams I can just reach under and pull the sewer hose through where it jams.

Have you gone under the rig lately and looked at the black tube?

I also have a 2003 TK.  One of the bolt fasteners for the tube on mine had gone into and thru the black tube so that it jams up the tube.  I think I did a temporary repair on mine by putting duct tape on the outside of the black tube.  I now have a few holes on my Prest-O-fit hose.

Steve, I am not familiar with the prest-o-fit hose.  Does it have a fitting on the end you are trying to insert?  My hose does not have a fitting on the end, and goes in, negotiating the bend, easily.  If yours has a fitting on the end, you have a decision to make.  Do you keep the fitting and struggle with getting it past the bend, or do you lose the fitting?  I recognize that there are commercial CG's out there that require an airtight sewer connection fitting, and you would need something on the end to make that happen.  As I almost never use commercial CG's I don't worry about that.

Now, if you do NOT have a fitting on the end, is the spiral wire protruding and catching?  If so, snip it smooth.

Steve, don't know if this would work on your TK but it may be a solution:

I like that idea as I'm storing the main hose and fittings in a plastic tote in the lower compartment just behind the driver's door in our MB. The extra hose is in the faux tire cover.  My hoses would not fit in the factory storage tube.  Presently, I have the outdoor temperature sensor in that tube instead.  I would really like to free up that driver side forward compartment for other things so will be looking at modifying the sewer hose storage.

Steve, here is another option.

In mine mounted transversely behind the rear tires, I have 70 feet of hose with fittings.

Two cautions - First, vibration can cause either of the two caps to loosen, dumping your dump hose onto the road.  Second, if you put a hose rated 8 or 10 feet in there, it can contract and the end you want to grab to remove it may be out of reach.  (It is not an issue for me, as my hoses in there all have bayonet fittings and are connected.)

To deal with the first issue, I drilled a 3/16" pair of holes through the tube inside the cap area and slid an aluminum tent stake into the holes.  There is now no chance of losing my hoses.

To deal with the second issue, if you only carry the one hose, you might be able to add a tent stake part way along the tube so you have to compress your hose a little to get it in.

Finally, drill a small hole at each end and the middle so if any fluid drips out of the hose, it has someplace to go rather than sitting in the tube.

Hi Steve (73GITANE);  The TK can be short of storage space. A sewer hose isn't something I wanted in a compartment so I added a door at the aft end.   New sewer hose    RonB

Got back to home base after spending a couple weeks along the Oregon coast and am happy to report I found the issue. The sewer storage tube makes a bend close to the bolt that secures one end of the leaf spring. This bolt has a good 3/4” of exposed threads and apparently over time wore into the storage tube. This is what the sewer hose was hanging up on. I was able to pull the hose down slightly to clear the bolt and all is well now!
