New Tire Experience @ Discount Tires
Existing tires just hit 7 years so I took the plunge with some long trips coming up with grandkids....

I selected Discount Tires because of their rep and ability to get support around the country.  I went Michelin Cross Climates because of very positive past experience in dealing with recalls and customer service.

I selected the Discount Tire location in Benton Arkansas which is about 45 minutes from Hot Springs.  Setting the appointment and buying on line was very easy and communication from the store was very good.   I was a bit nervous as this was my first tire change as we've only had it 4 years.   Lot of positive stories on the forum here but also plenty of nightmares..lol.

I did talk to the manager directly and ask him to try and locate the newest dot dates if possible and as close together as possible.

I took my manual and the tire cover tool with me and had readily accessible.   Checked in and they had me actually pull in a bay and I know a lot of people had them done outside.   They knew exactly what to do with the tool and did it correctly with no issues.   They replaced all 6 and we chose the best of the old tires to change out the spare.   My wife asked them to double wrap the spare because of tire smell and they complied with no issues.  The whole process was just under 2 hours from beginning to end and I am a very satisfied customer.

Now, get this...the DOT dates are 1221...the 12th week of 2021....this was literally straight from the factory!

Drive home was in a thunderstorm...handled great...will know more in the next week when we take off.

The total cost was around $1,500 which hurt the old wallet but worth the peace of mind for the next 6-7 years.

For a major corporation, Discount Tire has the best customer service of any company I've done business with.
Been to at least 50 different ones over the years and every time I leave with my expectations exceeded.

Or if you happen to be in Northern California there is the other name for the same company; America's Tire.   ::)

The quality of service at chain tire shops can be inconsistent; one shop in a chain might be well-managed, offer ease of access and space for large vehicles, and have a 'stable' workforce of trained and skilled employees, while another in the same chain may have poor or indifferent management, high employee turnover (and little, if any, training or supervision), and provide limited or awkward access for services.

JMO, but I would not assume that all shops in the same chain will offer the same quality of products and service. After unsatisfactory dealings over the years with at least four tire shop chains, I found a local independent shop that offers great service, trained and skilled techs, and a consistent policy of meeting customers' needs. It's a little more expensive than some, but they get my business because of the standard of service.

As always, YMMV.

I just had my new tires installed at Big Brand Tire in San Luis Obispo. They did a good job and I am a satisfied customer. They have around 20 locations in California where we will be doing the majority of our travel.  I figure the Michelin warranty will have us covered when we leave the state.

We have had very different experiences with Discount Tire at different locations. Last October we had our 5 yr old rear right outer Michelin blow up near Atlanta, thanks to the horrible roads in Michigan and other upper mid west states. We limped to the Discount Tires store near Chamblee, GA. Since we purchased the $25 per tire warrantee. The technicians replaced the tire w/o charge, it is fully covered by warrantee. We drove further down south to our winter destine in Miami. Unfortunately, another tire, the left rear inner blow up on I-75 again just near Gainesville, FL. It was unbelievable as these Michelin tires were under 50k miles and less than 5 year old! We limped again to the Discount Tire store in Gainesville for another replacement. A careful inspection by the technician there found the Chamblee GA store put on a WRONG tire, it was suppose to be a 225 tire but god knows why the Atlanta store installed a 245 tire at rear right outer position. The wrong tire size change the driving dynamics of the rear four tires and put too much stress on the opposite side, caused the left inner tire to blow up. The Gainesville store replaced the tire w/o any charge to us. I filed a compliant with photos attached. It was unbelievable as we have have been using Michelin tires from Discount Tire since 2011 and never had an experience of such a carelessness at the Atlanta store.

Lessons learned: 1, check tires yourself to make sure they are the correct size. 2, have the technician to inspect every tire on LD and towed vehicle.

How very true.  Took my, new to me, LD to the Discount Tire here in Chandler, AZ.  They backed it into a wall and tried to hide the damage.  Not cool.  If I hadn't of done a walk around before driving off they would have gotten away with it.  The manager took some persuading but eventually agreed that the damage occurred on his watch.  The damage was to the rear spare tire cover.  The mothership quoted $1100 to replace.  Discount tire reimbursed me for the cost.  I have done business with them in the past and been satisfied with the service.  Just check your vehicle before and after dropping off.

"Just check your vehicle before and after dropping off."

...before and after is not good enough! I NEVER drop off my LD unless it absolutely cannot be avoided, I stay on site and keep my eyes open every minute.   :o   ::)

Even better to take rig photos before and after.

I was in Bay #1 and watch everything through glass window in waiting room.   I can't imagine just dropping off with something so critical to be done.  I pulled in and out and they never drove.

That's what I like about Discount. you get to takes some responsibility by moving your own vehicle in and out of the bay.
Also, they do tires and wheels only. No alignments, brakes or any other service so they can concentrate on tires and wheels.
When you walk in, you are greeted immediately, even when it's so busy you just want to turn around and leave.
Who ever came up with their customer service program, did an outstanding job. All employees act professionally and know how to do their job.
It's a simple business model, done correctly.

I have had a good experience, however they do try to steal the tire extenders!

No theft attempts when I had new tires installed last month at Big Brand Tire but I was watching them carefully.   ;)
They are a Michelin dealer and gave me a better price than Tire Rack on the tires.:

"...try to steal the tire extenders!"

No one has ever accused me of being the sharpest tack in the box but would you be so kind and to explain what a 'tire extender' is!

Sorry I should have expressed myself better,  I meant the metal tire air valve extenders I have which seem to be hard to come by.

Silver Fox also just had to replace all of her 7 tires (spare included) because they were 5+ years old - better safe than sorry, After reading all the tire comments on the Forum, we went with the Michelin agilis tires and got them from our local Discount Tire. Discount Tire was great to work with. They were willing to check the tire dates and came up with all 7 within about 4 months of the install date. They also paid attention to our requests on the tire extenders and we were very pleased. They did put a little more air pressure in the front tires than we expected. On a short trip, I found that the extra 10 lbs in the front made a huge difference in the handling - much more than we would have expected. We reduced the pressure to the amount we had determined after weighing the rig and looking at the appropriate charts and the ride was fine. Otherwise, very happy with our experience at Discount Tire.
