Mounting Fire Extinguishers
I purchased a couple of Halotron fire extinguishers to supplement the ABC extinguisher provided by Lazy Daze.  I would like to mount it on the floorboard behind the driver seat but am hesitant as I don’t know what’s underneath.  Any suggestions?

Thanks, Glen.  The extinguisher already has a mount. I’m just not sure where to mount it.  Behind the driver seat is ideal in my mind but not sure if it’s safe to screw the mount into the flooring. I don’t want to mount it on the thin paneling that surrounds the fridge.

Why don't you just lay it in the well behind the seat and snug it up to the black seat belt retractor box. No mount needed. Easy to grab if you need it.

Yeah, that’s where I have it now, wrapped in a towel.  Guess I’m looking for a better way to secure it. Maybe it’s just a solution looking for a problem?

I assume you bought this or something similar.
Buckeye 70258 Halotron Hand Held Fire Extinguisher with Aluminum Valve and...
Halotron is the environmentally cleaner replacement for halon 1211, which was widely used for protecting electronic and other installations where the use of a dry chemical extingusher would cause extensive damage. Halon 1211 was found to be severely ozone depleting and eventaully outlawed.
If the above is what you bought, be selective on what type of fires it is used on, the description on the extinguisher linked to states:
"Not UL Listed or suitable for use on fires involving cooking oil and grease."

Cooking fires are the most common of RV fires, for which I prefer a foam extinguisher. Foam is non-toxic, works well on liquid fires, and is easy to clean up.

Dry chemical ABC exingushers work well but the powder is very difficult to clean up and is highly corrosive, it will rust any ferrious metals where the powder remains.
It is death to electronics. Use thoughtfully.

I have been procrastinating about getting a fire extinguisher for the Jeep. Any suggestions? Halatron? Looks huge. Where to mount where I could get to it? Have a roof rack, maybe there? If a fire was beyond just starting I probably would just getaway.

Good to know that powder will rust metals. I had to use one for an oven fire recently. I cleaned it pretty good but will now blow it out with the air compresor.

Larry, I purchased something similar to the Buckeye. The Amerex extinguishers are physically smaller in diameter but a little longer which I preferred in this application.  Got a two-pack of those. Both are quality brands (I’m not a big fan of Kidde). I did buy a case of the little foam extinguishers to disperse inside the rig and in the outside compartments for class Bravo type fires. Shout out to Kent H. for his input!

Just a follow up.  Finally decided on how to mount the forward fire extinguisher.  I was leery of drilling holes behind the driver’s seat for the mount so switched to the passenger side, where there is more room to work with, and just Velcroed it to the flooring with industrial strength Velcro.  It’s securely tucked away but readily available behind the passenger seat.
