Re-caulked the windows on exterior March 24, 2021, 09:35:25 pm I re-caulked the windows on the exterior of my LD. I noticed the seams needed attention. I scrubbed them down with soap and water and let it all dry overnight. Next, I stripped out any lifting, peeling and loose sealant using a caulk remover tool, plastic and metal razor blades, and adhesive remover. After that, I washed all the window seams with acetone. I re-caulked the seams with 3M 4200 fast cure semi-permanent adhesive sealant in white. I chose to use this because it can be removed in the future. My concern with the 3M 5200 is that it is meant to be permanent and could damage the windows and frames if they needed to be removed any time in the future. The 4200 is thick and sticky and needs to be applied with a caulking gun. I ran a very small bead to get a good seal and went back and added additional layers as needed. I think I got a good waterproof, weather tight result. The photos show before and halfway through a window. 4 Likes

Re: Re-caulked the windows on exterior Reply #2 – March 25, 2021, 01:46:10 pm As many leaks come from leaking window frames as leaking end caps. The Factory window sealant shrinks with age and can allow water to enter the walls. I have found resealing with a good polyurethane works well, having done dozens of frames using 3M 5200 Fast Cure.Window and seam sealing | FlickrLarry 3 Likes
