Bathroom dome cover replacement
Looks like it is time to replace the bathroom dome cover, on the roof today and detected a small crack developing at the corner of the cover. The ones on the LD are heavily painted and I read that they can become very brittle.
Is it preferred to replace the whole sky light assembly on a older (2000) LD and the dome at the same time?

While I am at it, looks like the fire escape hatch dome cover would be a good item to replace as well. Most likely the same age.
Is it advisable to replace this whole fire escape assembly as well?

Thought I had read that the "Mothership" is no longer supplying some parts for older LD's. Maybe I should buy two covers for each if it is an item that is difficult to find.

Read that some like the Maxair fans better than the Fantastic Fans due to noise, I assume the fans I can get from another source than the factory.

Another item I am looking into is the clips that hold the exterior electric outlet cover. I had an "enthusiastic" neighbor that was taking a look around the LD when it was parked in front of the house, and he flipped the cover up and it fell off. I was only able to recover one of the silver clips that holds it in place. The LD is parked in an indoor storage facility and water intrusion has not been an issue so far.

Would like to call the factory and order it soon, has anyone had delay's in delivery of parts from the factory lately?

Hi Kimberly;   The bath skylight has been replaced with a better design. Easy to replace if you can drill a few holes. Pretty good instructions.  Factory constructed, supplied.
Only the cover needs replacing on the escape hatch, unless it has other problems also.  Again the factory has that part.
Hengs has domes for the FFan. Mine has done well.
Good that you have your outlet cover.  I just bought a new cover (home depot?), and stole the spring out of it. Put in a new gasket since that came with the cover.  You might be able to get a generic white cover, but the old one should be ok unless the little tab is too worn, or broken off.   This in reference to a friends 2001 MB that I worked on.   RonB

Kimberly,

I ordered a new propane detector from the Mothership and had it delivered very quickly.

I ordered a new decorative hub cap today. Kinda squished it while turning a corner in Zion last week. I expect to have it waiting for me upon my return from Morro Bay.

There's a good string on alternatives to replacing the escape hatch. Pasting the url here...it's making me think twice about how to replace it - maybe an aluminum version would be the better idea...
Replacement Escape Hatch for 1999 Lazy Daze

I bought both a replacement shower dome and the escape hatch ~6 months ago. To date, I've only replaced the shower dome (read the instructions completely before starting the install). Cost for both & shipping to Northern CA was around $360 as I recall. No issues with the delivery.

Took about a 3 days to get parts (bathroom skylight assembly and fire escape hatch dome cover) in from the factory after they received the check.

Since I ordered only the dome cover for the escape hatch and not the entire assembly, one has to recycle the cross rail on the interior side of the dome.

Question :  instruction for Fire escape hatch dome replacement? No instruction sent with the dome or foam gasket. Is the cross rail glued to the dome cover?

The dome cover I am replacing is heavily painted. I have not opened it in the year I have had it due to the fragile aged appearance of the dome cover.

Thank you, Confidence comes with experience, Kimberley

Fire exit dome cover came without foam gasket, may have to hold off until I can call the factory on Monday.

I did find these instructions from a former member, I apologize for not noting the members name.

Simply remove the four screws on the small aluminum tabs (two screws on each tab) on the exterior of the vent cover.  These tabs hold the cross rail to which the hand- crank arm attaches on the interior side of the vent cover. Once the cover is free from this cross rail, there's one screw on each end of the roof-mounted rail where the leading edge of the aluminum vent cover and the motorhome join together.  (This creates the "hinge" area at the front of the vent).  Once you've removed one of these screws, hold the vent cover straight up and down(vertical to the roof of the LD)and slide the cover off towards the side where you removed the one screw on the roof-mounted rail. The installation is just the reverse of this procedure.
Remove the two screws that attach the lifting arm, then from above remove the four screws that attach the arm support to the lid.
Then open the hatch and slide off to left or right.  You may have to bend closed the split fingers at the end of the part of the hinge that remains attached to the roof. Install the supplied gasket and slide the new lid in place.

Thanks, Kimberley
