Re: How long do shocks last? Reply #2 – March 18, 2021, 04:46:28 pm Years and years ago Koni had a plant in northern VA. They hosted a tour for the local Austin Healey Club. On the tour the factory rep answered questions and a similar question was asked. He said the answer really depended on how the car was used. Oddly collector cars faired worse than cars driven daily. That was because the working of the shock kept the rod that goes into the fluid oiled and smooth. When a car was only rarely used the rod did not move much and the surface would become pitted. The pitting would ware the seal and the shock would start leaking.
