On my '08, I believe it is Imron.

And Imron is called a polyurethane enamel, I think. Anyhow, it is a two part catalyzed aircraft paint. There is none better.

Interesting,  Imron® polyurethane enamel.  Its supposed to be good stuff so I hope I can restore the paint.
Thanks for the information.

You should first try buffing it out, I think. My 2006 responded very well to the buffing wheel.

If that doesn’t get you what you want then you will need to do a bit of research. Visit an auto paint shop of long standing or dive into the net. Imron was developed by DuPont. The rest is from memory. It is no longer marketed under that name. The catalyst is very dangerous and has gotten the attention of the EPA. It has the words methyl isocyanate in it. Remember Bhopal India?

Nowadays it requires a special paint booth and it also required a special respirator. Use without the respirator caused more than one Hot Rod painter’s demise. I remember that it could not be retouched but that is probably not true after 30 years.

Bottom line is you probably cannot duplicate it today without a multi thousand dollar repaint at the mothership or taking it south of the Mexico border where the EPA has no sway. A call to the mothership may get the name of the paint they use today, I expect it to be equivalent but maybe not. The EPA came down on it hard.

My memory info comes from years in the aviation world.

"Nowadays it requires a special paint booth and it also required a special respirator."

And that is one of the major reasons that slow down production at LD.

Thanks for the advice! I’m planning to use a deoxidizing polishing compound first. The last time I did this the paint looked great, so I have high hopes it will again.
I’ll post some pictures when I do it.

I did find Imron Elite available for $460 per gallon in UPS Brown. LD price is probably in that ballpark. Sold under the name Axalta. I certainly agree it is the correct paint to use. At 25 years a buffing wheel fixed it right up and I’m in the Arizona sun, but not in the summer.

Ever seen a faded UPS truck? They probably wear them out pretty quick.

I thought that Lazy Daze had for years used a polyurethane enamel from Cardinal Industrial Finishes, then switched to Imron about five years back.
