Repairing chair seat post March 23, 2021, 02:24:34 pm One of our two barrel chairs had developed excessive looseness on its stand, due to a loosened attachment of the seat post to the bracket bolted to the chair seat bottom. Removing and inspecting that assembly, it was apparent that the post was welded to the bracket, and that the weld had cracked loose from the post. Access to the area was very poor, and re-welding was not an option - apparently that step initially preceded other welds in the process.My solution was to drill and tap through the bracket lip AND post, and secure with 8-32 screws. I did this at three points in a rough triangle around the post, and when done slathered J-B Weld epoxy around the screws and post. The epoxy is mainly to reduce the chance of screws loosening or anything shifting, because removing the black paint first was too difficult and will make the epoxy adhesion spotty. So far, the chair seems a lot more solid on its pedestal.
