Video projectors vs Smart TV February 16, 2021, 12:55:01 pm I am on the waitlist and with that I have time to think and dream about our LD. I have been thinking about our entertainment once we hit the road. With our past RVs I hated the location of the TVs. As I am getting older I can no longer tolerate sitting in an awkward position to watch shows. I believe with a good video projector and screen i could finally find a comfortable position. There are projectors out there that are the size of your hand but I am not sure of the clarity.Anyone out there have a projector setup? I would love to hear about your experiences and the pros and cons of such a setup.Cheers,Julie

I don't have a projector, but I do occasionally read the specs just out of curiosity, and I can tell you this much: all the ones I've read about that are the size of your hand are dim, and have low to mediocre resolution. I'd be shopping for something closer to the size of a dictionary. I know that's a crazy way to spec a projector, but from what I've read, the "micro" models just aren't very good at this stage of the game. The larger ones can be, though. 1 Likes

If you are always connected to shore power that won't matter, but if you like to "get away" as I do, power consumption is important. My TV is a flat screen TV that draws about 2 amps, 120 volts.Ken F in NM(Edit - Oops, my bad. My TV draws 2 amps per my battery monitor, so that is 2 amps 12 volts, not 120 volts. Ken)

I took a quick look at a few models, and yes--they have halogen projector bulbs that can draw several hundred watts. There are LED models that may be less power-hungry, but I have't found power consumption specs for any of those yet.
Re: Video projectors vs Smart TV Reply #6 – February 16, 2021, 04:47:05 pm I used to use a projector when I was still working for giving PowerPoint presentations and demoing software that ran on a laptop. The micro projectors were handy for packing away in your carrying bag but you had to make the room really dark to even see the display. The midsize units (what Andy calls dictionary size) were much brighter and still easy to carry around. The best one the company had was an led model with a rechargeable battery. I don’t remember the model (it was 6 years ago) but the battery would last at least 3-4 hours. I’m sure they have improved since then, but I’d look for an led model with a high lumen spec.- John 1 Likes

There are tv mounts like this one Impact Mounts Folding Ceiling Tv Mount Bracket LCD Led Great for Rvs Motor Homes (13-27" Screens) that you could mount under an overhead cabinet wherever it would be most comfortable for you. Re: Video projectors vs Smart TV Reply #8 – February 16, 2021, 05:05:15 pm Last summer we bought the ViewSonic M1 Portable Projector with Dual Harman Kardon Speakers which are built in the projector. This unit has a built in battery which has lasted about 3.5 hrs enough to last about two non epic movies. It replaced a older portable projector we had that was stolen a few years ago. We put this projector on a tripod and run it outside on the side of our 98~MB on a screen we bought from amazon which is superior to the white bed sheet we use to use. This Projector is in the 800 Lumen range so is most effective at night. We can leave it plugged into 12VDC or 120VAC for longer run times. The sound is excellent! Now when we are not in our LD we have the screen hanging in our living room and use it there, it works great! I highly reccomend it for night time use at home or on the road. We bought a travel case for it and its power wires. Re: Video projectors vs Smart TV Reply #9 – February 16, 2021, 05:06:49 pm I've noticed in our MB that the factory TV mount in the lounge does not allow a very good angle to watch from the dinette up front. It just doesn't clear enough to get past the folding accordion door. Swapping out the mount for another one may solve that issue. 1 Likes
