Mystery hose January 08, 2021, 03:07:21 pm Upper radiator hose blew. So while peeking around to gauge what I am into repair wise, I found this hose. I tried to find where it goes when it started to rain. It is the hose on the right side, middle of foto. It looks as though it has been 'sheared' off. It is thin walled and ribbed. Bottom of engine is the left side of the foto. Any ideas olease? 1990 G30, 5.7l....
Re: Mystery hose Reply #1 – January 08, 2021, 04:02:20 pm Hi MIP; If I remember, that is a heat riser from the exhaust manifold to the choke mechanism on the carburetor. Warm air from the manifold warms up the choke to shut off the rich mixture needed for a cold engine. Pretty quick after the engine is running, but before the hot water and warmth of the intake manifold take over to shut off the choke. Intact you might use a little less gasoline during warm up, but not enough to matter. Larry owned one near this vintage, so he should know for sure. It might have been just to feed warmer air into the air cleaner to evaporate gasoline more easily; some type of smog control. RonB 2 Likes

Just finished the upper hose repair When changing radiator and heater hoses, unless using the stock spring type clamps, the screw clamps need to be retightened after a hundred miles or so.
