2021 RV shipments still climbing: Where will we stay?
It’s gotten crowded out there and projections are that trend will continue. I can’t help but wonder if this is the new normal or just an RV craze bubble that will burst and things will return to the old normal, whatever that is.

Russ and Tina, the writers of this article must have skipped their basic math courses.   An increase of 250,000 sites out of 1.2 million isn't .18%. More like 18 percent. Those pesky decimals again.  An 18% increase in sites compared to a 20% increase in rigs on the street isn't very dire. Many rigs may get retired, and some unuseable sites in existing parks may get refurbished, or some large sites may get reconfigured into multiple smaller sites. You can be sure that prices will go up in most locations.
    Interesting to note that they were only counting 'hookup' sites where you could get power.  I wonder what the percentage of electric sites is as compared to total places to park.  In my opinion being able to bypass electric and/or other hookups, helps to expand possible camping sites.
   I was watching some RV TV shows from the 2017 to 2018  time frame and noticed that dealers were pushing 'residential' style refrigerators on customers who seemed clueless to the drawbacks.  Huge 5th wheels probably don't move often, and spend most of their time in hookup sites, but otherwise, battery providers or generator repairmen must be happy.    RonB

Prediction - There will be more money made selling storage lot parking spots than campsites over the next 3-4 years. 

People have more free time and fewer recreational options than they have in quite a while.  Once people can get back to whatever they used to do (work, school, fly to vacation, cruise vacation, kids sports and other activities), things will settle down and the RVs will sit until people get tired of paying storage fees.

We noticed that the Mount Hood village RV resort in Oregon expanded their sites by at least 50, maybe 100 on their existing property. Used to go there with some regularity before Covid closed the pool. It was done in two stages so it seems demand just keeps growing. At least in the west part of the demand is being fueled by fires. We saw a lot of RVers hunting for campgrounds late last summer during the fires. The smoke was thick, so most were probably not pleasure campers.

My guess and its just a guess by looking at human history and how humans responded  to pandemics in the past - read roaring 20's after the Spanish Flu in 1918 - 1919 - we will come out of 'lock down' with a explosion of spending for all sort of toys and personal human joys that we have been depraved in the past year.    In my pickup and go personal RV experience we had no problem finding places to go and spots to camp.   I have ALL the faith in the world that capitalism will respond quickly to demand.
