rear tires on the 31 ft LD
Has there ever been any discussion of the tail pipe being close to the rear tires on the 31 ft.... making the rear tires more vulnerable for blowout?? We were told this by a person who had a 31 ft and had an  rear inside dually blowout.

Three summers ago, we had a right rear, inner blowout, as many other LD owners have experienced, most likely exhaust heat contributed to the tire's demise.
We were lucky, the damage was minor and easily fixable, others have not been so lucky and had thousands of dollars of damage,

After replacing the entire set of tires, a set of exhaust shields were fabricated to reduce the heat exposure to the right, inner rear tire, made from galvanized sheet metal purchased at Home Depot. They are held on with hose clamps and cost about $10.00 to make. The rear tires are now rotated every two years, to spread the heat exposure over the two inner rear tires.

Odd. I checked the link before posting it; it was to an entire thread of exhaust pipe heat shield posts. Don't know, but if one does a search of the forum using "exhaust pipe heat shield" as the key phrase, quite a few on the topic posts come up.

Looks like a relatively inexpensive insurance policy against a huge hassle and potentially dangerous satiation.

Anyone know what length of the shield in the amazon link would fit the exhaust pipe of the 30 IB?
