A bit off the LazyDaze topic but advice is needed.
My sister-in-law and her husband have lost their home in the Riverside Fire and are now staying with us. They think they would like to get a travel trailer to put on their land before and while a new house will be built.  They have admired the quality of our Lazy Daze and were wondering if anyone knew of travel trailers that have high standards.  Since they would be living in it for over a year, possibly two, it would have to have a reasonable amount of space.  After that they then think they would downsize to one for traveling.  Advice from this group would be helpful.  Thanks so much.  Kriegers

A manager where I work swears by Jayco.   A relative has a Lance.  That is about all I got to offer.  Good luck.
P.S. I would suggest used.

Cathy, sorry for your SIL’s loss. These fires in California have been devastating!

Don’t know what the budget for a quality trailer is but you may want to consider Escape. Like a Lazy Daze, they are built to order so new would probably not work, time-wise, but she may find one used. The 21’ model would have almost as much living space as a 27’ Lazy Daze (it would be narrower though), and they could tow it as a RV after the new house is built. Check out their lineup here. Good luck!

I’m sorry for your friends’ loss.

Before we switched to motor homes and Lazy Daze, we camped all over the Rocky Mountains, three seasons of the year. We had a Lance camper for a while but it did not hold up well to back country boondocking - the frame was not strong enough for rough fire roads and snow loads - it eventually failed. The Lance was also not very well insulated.

After research and reference checks, we bought an Arctic Fox, made by Northwood manufacturing -  Northwood | Northwood Manufacturing   We found Northwood makes durable, well designed and importantly, four season capable products.  The later may not seem important in California. However, if your friends will be full-timing, they will appreciate the ability to stay cool or warm longer. In fact, Northwood sells a lot of their units to those using them in the desert.

Good luck.

Well, Warren beat me to it; I was going to suggest Northwood's Arctic Fox. They might also want to look at a Grand Design. Obviously, what they get depends a great deal on their budget and the amount of space and amenities needed, but the Northwood and GD might be good manufacturers to consider. Among the fiberglass "egg" trailers, Oliver would be my choice - if I wanted a trailer!  ;)

Lengthy, but some common sense advice in this thread. Also mentions some of the brands recommended by our members. If I were to buy a travel trailer tomorrow, I'd choose an Arctic Fox/Nash (larger TT) or a Casita/Escape (smaller TT).

I like Arctic Fox, too.  Another good brand is Oliver Travel Trailer.

When I was researching egg trailers a while back, I came across Oliver. They appear to be very high quality. Three things that turned me off to them were:

Very expensive
Very heavy
Limited floorplans

They seem to have a strong following, like many brands. If you have the proper towing vehicle, a big wallet, and can make one of the layouts work for you, go for it!
