Nice LED Headlight and Marker light upgrade for 2008+ LDs

Just thought I would share a positive review I have of the Beamtech H13 LED headlight bulbs. I had heard about this brand from members of the Ford Flex forum I belong to. I gave their fog light LEDs a shot awhile ago in my Flex and was impressed with the increased visibility and crisp hue without being obnoxiously bright. I've since bought the H13 style bulbs first to try out in my Flex and I really like the increased visibility and hue it provides without being too hard on the eyes (its a cool white). When we purchased our LD last year it had been about 80% converted to LED bulbs in the interior and taillight housing. This past year I upgraded the front and rear marker lights to Bargman LEDs which include the housing and are plug and play (link below). I installed the new Beamtech H13s in our LD this past week and am really happy with the throw of the light and hue. Haven't taken it on a long trip but just wanted to share that the install was straightforward, plug & play, and are a great upgrade to the 2008+ model year LDs. Not sure if the previous chassis front end uses the H13 bulbs but if so they should be compatible. There are many videos on YouTube and the Ford manual also explains the procedure for headlight bulb replacement. It is no different for this LED bulb. Here is how I recommend doing it

-There are three screws to remove, one 10mm screw on the top of the headlight housing accessible when you prop the hood open. The other two 7mm screws are right above the chrome bumper and there is a gap under the headlight housing at the bottom to get to them. Use a ratchet extension and a flashlight pointing up from the ground to give you visibility while you do it.

-The housing pops out of place fairly easily and I found it easiest to twist the three bulb sockets (two amber marker bulb connectors and the headlight bulb connector) out for easiest access. I set the headlight housing aside until I had the new Beamtech LED bulb in place and connected to the wiring harness. Again, it's plug and play.

-IMPORTANT, read the broken English Beamtech instructions and make sure you line up the bulb inside the headlight housing properly. I did this upside down in my Flex at first and the hi beam function scattered the light improperly. If it doesn't look right, simply take the bulb connector out and put it in 180 degrees the other way.

These LEDs are brighter than the stock halogens so taste may vary but it is a great visibility improvement from what I can tell. The heatsink and quality of the bulb makes me hopeful that they will last a good long time but I'll have to follow up in a year or two for that updated review :D

There has been much discussion on various sites about LED headlights for the E-series. Some of the reports are of poor beam patterns, spread, and distances. There are a few vendors that work exclusively on LED headlights for E-series platforms and reports about their products have been positive, substantiated, and documented by before-and-after pictures. These products are very expensive and there are many options.

Your picture of the result is nice but not that helpful. Did you take any before-and-after pictures of beam patterns, spread, and distances for comparison?

It's extremely difficult to get proper photos of beam patterns, spread etc. and honestly lighting is a very subjective matter and what one owner likes will vary vastly from another. I'm just sharing my personal experience of very positive opinions of these newer LED bulbs which also have a strong positive review from many customers. I'm not affliated with the company in any way but I too have tried out LED bulbs in the past with poor results on many applications (I restore old pinball machines and LEDs are a hot market for pinball upgrades). These bulbs worked really well with the diffuser built into the headlight assembly and were brighter/sharper which for me is a plus in low light settings. If you should try them and not like them, the beauty is simple returns with Amazon.

I have tried two sets of  LED conversion bulbs in my Cherokee, one set was unusable, throwing light every which way, the other set wasn't too bad but certainly not as good as a Factory LED headlight.
One of the main issues in LED conversion bulbs is the lack of a decent low beam cutoff, which can blind oncoming drivers.
The headlights were designed for halogen bulbs with a pre-known filament location.  LEDs bulbs need their chips to be located in the same spots if the cutoff is to be maintained.
Not all LED conversion bulbs are the same, some LED bulbs do reasonably well, others have terrible light patterns.
It pays to do your homework and even then, it's a gamble.
If you do buy, make sure the bulbs are returnable if they do not perform up to your expectations.
