Stove replacement
Hi, I am visiring  West Seattle from Texas for next month or so. The front burner is loose and leaking propane. I want to go ahead and replace/upgrade the range altogether. I'm looking for recommendations for rv services for this area. It would be perfect if I could find someone to perform the service at my location. Thanks!

I’m not aware of any independent services in the Seattle area, just the various dealers.  I’ve used Infinity a few times in Sumner which may be a bit farther than you want to go. They’ve been responsive and reasonable when I’ve dealt with them.

Not sure why you want to upgrade as opposed to fixing, but if to get improved performance or features, you might want to take dimensions and research the model you want before shopping for a shop, which might have a very limited available selection.

Andy Baird, in one of his Lazy Daze, upgraded the stove. You should be able to view it on his blog.  8)

Improved performance and features both. I saw Andy's upgrade a while back and that got me thinking. I figure a good shop can do this. I live in Texas so might wait til I'm back and in the meantime  just not use front burner.

"The front burner is loose and leaking propane."

Can you be more explicit in what or how this burner is deficient? "Loose" doesn't tell us much! If there was more info perhaps someone could come up with a fix.  ::)

The stove burner is easily accessible by pushing in slightly and pivoting up the stovetop. The burner is fastened down with one screw, and when removed, it simply slips over the valve jet. Leaking gas could result from a spider entering the tube through the air ports, so you might find a blockage to pull out. Else, the valve could be defective and leaking.

Ty very much for your suggestions. The black material that covers burner where it fits into valve is cracked. I believe that that is source of leak when burner is turned on. I can order a replacement burner, but I would much rather upgrade range to one with features such as ignition lighting oven for one. I ran the idea by my SIL of some heat tape around the connection in the meantime but he didn't like the idea. He is an electrical engr.

With such a new unit, you may be able to get a warranty replacement.

If the leak is only when you have the valve turned on, then I think you can safely wait until you are back in Texas for either repair or replacement.  If, OTOH, it leaks propane when the valve is off, you are risking the loss of your RV at best, and death at worst, if you delay.

As to using some kind of tape as a temporary fix, don't.  Assuming the leak happens only when the valve is on, I would turn off the valve, then pull off the dial so it cannot be accidentally turned on.  Leaking propane is dangerous.  I say it again, DANGEROUS.  Do not screw around with do-it-yourself fixes.

Agree with Ken’s counsel. JMO, but I would not use the stove *at all* until it could be properly repaired or replaced by a “gas” professional. Propane is an extremely volatile substance, and leaks can be deadly.

"Happily" it only leaks when valve is on. I like your suggestion to pull off dial. I am gonna take this thing out though when I figure out a range better suited to me. I had good conversation with Infinity Coach here in WA as to replacement range. And spoke with Todd. He said to send him photos.
