Another advantage I found was the fuel gets to the carb quicker with an electric pump. If you haven't used it in a while it might take a few longer cranks to get fuel up there with the mechanical pump than electric. I was told in theory you shouldn't lose the fuel in the carb and line from sitting, YMMV.
