Non-sealed windows???
I'm wondering if my 2007 26.5 MB needs it's windows sealed where the window frame meets the aluminum body.  I'm the third owner of this LD; so, I don't know most of the maintenance history, but it doesn't look like there was ever a sealant placed in this junction.  If you look at the picture, it looks like cracks have appeared in the paint that covers this juncture, and there's no sealant in there.  So what am I missing?  I would think that a sealant is needed, and I'm thinking about applying the product in the picture which comes in "Crystal Clear".

So what do you think of all this?

Thank you!
Eric

Eric, it is hard to see what is going on with the windows - looks like dirt to me but others. An blow up pictures better to see more detail.
I suggest a picture of the top of the window frame - IMO that area sees damage to the sealant first (horizontal surface so gets more rain sitting in that area as well as more sunlight).
You are looking for a smooth surface, no tiny pinprick (or larger) holes or cracks.

Check the companion (see the links at the top of the home page) and do some searches on window sealing to learn about the suggested products.

Thanks Jane.   Appreciate it!  I'll look tomorrow at what is on the top (horizontal) frame to see if there's any sealant along there, but if sealant was used around the window, I would also have expected it on the sides (ie. along the vertical sides) of the window frame.  Do others have sealant between the window frame and the body panel?  I know other products are recommended, but I'm also wondering if the one pictured in the original post would also be good.

All comments welcome, of course.

Hi Eric; I guarantee that your windows left the factory with sealant around the windows.  Older ones before 2000 I believe had a gray butylene gooey rubber compound. This material would need resealing by now. Your 2007 may have been originally sealed with PL-40, or something similar. Either way, supplemental resealing would be good by now.  I think most here would use 3M 5200 fast cure added on to the outside top and sides to supplement what is still there. There are many discussions about this subject, both recent and further back. I would use white, and I'm pretty sure you can't paint it. Small tubes of 5200 is available in black also.  So white where the aluminum is painted white, black where your color is.  5200 is very messy and hard to work with. Good gloves can help.
